A new crowdfunding campaign has been launched to bring a master’s vision onto bookshelves around the world.
Discoveries of a Lifetime contains only unpublished images, over 150 in total, and the accompanying writing raises it beyond the level of a coffee table art book. Each image is expanded through its caption, and essays embedded in the book delve into Bruce’s photography, into photography as an art form, and into life in general.
While reviewing all his black and white negatives from the start of his career over five decades ago through his most recent exposures, Bruce hoped to uncover a few overlooked images. There were so many that they became the basis for this 384-page book filled with reproductions of Bruce’s fine art prints. Through these career-spanning photos and deeply considered writings, Bruce reveals how photography can become a personal voice, and his passion for both photography and our planet earth fills the pages.
Silvergrain Publishing is honored to be collaborating with Bruce on Discoveries of a Lifetime. The images are stunning, and the writing is amusing, moving, and thought-provoking; the printing and binding of the book will live up to the quality of the content. Discoveries of a Lifetime will be offset-printed on 135g/m paper — 50% thicker than normal printing paper — weighing 2.7kg (6lbs) in total, with a glossy UV-protective finish on all images. The book will be hardbound in linen cloth, and the spine will have a custom stamp of Bruce Barnbaum’s signature. We see Discoveries of a Lifetime as his signature work.
This art photography book does not fit into traditional bookseller categories, and the uncompromising quality standards we set are above and beyond the norm. So, we have decided to publish it with the help of the film photography community through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. We hope many film lovers will consider joining Bruce and SilvergrainClassics as collaborators in the project.
