A warning: I have seen some "tutorials" on the FixOldCameras channel that offer really, REALLY bad advice about certain "repairs". Some of the suggested approaches to certain problems are truly horrific and should be avoided. If it looks like a sloppy hack, it probably is, so approach with caution.

Chris Sherlock, on the other hand, is a highly skilled (Kodak trained) repair technician and his tutorials are trustworthy and informative. Here he demonstrates servicing of a 1930s Retina Type 119.

I don't think that's fair, because it devalues the author's entire work.

Which videos/techniques do you mean exactly?

What is there wrong and why?

Although the Minolta X-700 was and is very popular, you can only find a few videos that deal with service and repairs.

Here is one of them.

You will be shown how to disassemble the camera down to the shutter, clean and lubricate it and also repaint the housing

I can't find the specific video now, but I watched the technician remove a stuck front lens group from a shutter using vice grips on bare metal, badly scarring the lens! It was appalling. I watched in disbelief.

You claim something but provide no further evidence.

I, on the other hand, picked up a lot of useful information there. And what I do with it in my work is my responsibility anyway.

You will see techniques in many tutorials or videos that you disagree with. But that doesn't mean I have to rate the author overall. That's not my approach, but everyone should see it however they want.

Your positions are clear on the topic of the reliability of a particular site. It is unnecessary to continue the discussion here.
People can use the warning contained in this thread in whatever way they deem appropriate.
But from a moderator's point of view, a warning that indicates that the poster is of the opinion that the quality of a site is inconsistent and therefore people who view it should "approach (it) with caution", has a tone and approach that we support.

Chris sherlock deserves IMO to be on your list with more than just the above-quoted passing mention. The search below will bring up tens of videos (and some false positives...)
Chris was kind enough to provide me personal advice to restore my Typ117.

I've been working on a video series documenting the overhaul of a Pentax K1000. Just finished up the video of the shutter service and thought I'd share it. I try to cover the details of how the mechanisms work as well as what I'm doing to service them. Hope you find it interesting.

This is all GREAT, and THANX for all your effort. I'm sure it will be appreciated by many -- without much thanks, however.

One idea would be to group the links by manufacturer -- Minolta, Canon, Nikon, etc -- and then place them in STICKIES somewhere on this FORUM, where you and others (like me) can add additional
links.

The main problem with links -- I know too well -- there is no easy way to deal with LINK ROT. If there is, please let me know!
