Hi,

I am searching for a case for my new Leica M4-P. It should provide good protection for the camera so that I can bring it with me more often. I've seen a lot of brown cases for M3s, that might be an alternative if the tripod screw fits.

thanks in ahead
Erik

The M3 case fits fine. Downsides are that the strap is on the case and the front is inseparable from the back.

They don't call company-supplied ever-ready leather camera cases "Never-ready" for a reason. They're tight, hard to unsnap, and clumsy. They also keep you from using your camera quickly.

Forget them. Get a swiss army gas mask bag

and put the uncased camera with its strap in that. There's also room for a second lens and two rolls of film. The bags are water-tight (from rain) and can be padded by stuffing a small towel in the bottom, if you like. This is doubly handy because it is the very wise traveler who knows where his towel is.

These bags have the advantage of being grungy looking so nobody is tempted to steal your camera.

They also cost $12.50 including shipping. Let's see anything with "Leica" written on it match that.

True, a case like this means your camera may take the occasional bump or knock, especially if you don't case the lenses while in the bag with the camera -- don't worry, that's why Leicas are made like Leicas. They're meant to be used. Cases like this have been my standard travel bag for years. I pad the bottom of mine with a couple of power bars for snacks, and out the door I go.

I'm not surprised Swiss army gas mask cases are being sold cheap on EBay it must bee over 100 Years since they were at war
