Go to www.womenphotographers.com and click on the 'photo of the month' on the home page and one of Frances Schultz's hand-coloured pics is the choice for July. The site is an interesting one; Graham started it a few years back because he reckoned that women photographers didn't get the coverage they deserve. There are more of her handcoloured pics (some collaborations that I've shot and she's coloured) on our site at http://www.rogerandfrances.com/sgallery/g hc 0.html.

Cheers,

Roger

Fine work. Congrats to Frances!

Beautiful work. My mother used to work part-time in a photo lab colouring photos (before colour photography). I have a few of her coloured photos hanging in my home.

Roger,
Please pass on a well done to Francis for me. Handcoloured photos usually do little for me but Francis has made me think again about this technique.

Congrats to her. I've always liked her work & it's good to see her get this honor.

As for women in photography... many of us here know where to go for like-minded conversation & "photo support".

Excellent work, Frances ... as usual (the keyboard I'm using here at a friend's house doesn't make an exclamation mark... but you deserve one) (or two).

Bises,

Chris

Congratulations! Great job!

I love hand colored photographs. They just seem so beautiful. I can't do it myself, though, as I don't have that talent.

Tell her congratulations for me and that all the work is beautiful.

Roger. Its a great example of hand colouring. Another example is the one of her Father's portrait that I've seen in a book - like a colour print but uniquely different and in its own way better. I have often wondered about trying handcolouring and would be interested in how long it took Frances to get to this standard as well as how.

Even her musings on hand colouring, let alone an instruction module on your site would be welcome and worth your modest fee for those who haven't worked out the economics of becoming a subscriber.

I am sorely afraid that her hand colouring history will be a bit like former world snooker champion Dennis Taylor's comment on his ability at snooker when he said that he became an overnight success after only 14 years!

Thanks to everyone for all the kind comments. They really have cheered Frances up. Some will know that she has something called PPR, pseudopolyarthrite rhizomelique or (I think, in English) polymyalgia. It's characterised by lassitude and aching joints: the pain migrates from one place to another. It normally goes away after 3-5 years and she's had it for nearly two. Yesterday, for example, she had to spend most of the day resting.

The pic to which Pentaxuser referred is also one of my favourites:
http://www.rogerandfrances.com/images/hand/artie 2 fs.jpg. Her father, who died 10 years ago, would have been 95 yesterday; that occasioned a tear, too. The picture was taken a few months before he died. As a student he was captain of Cornell University pistol shooting team and he remained a keen target pistol shooter for the rest of his life.

Cheers,

Roger

Congradulations to Frances. This should lift her spirits and put a smile on her face.
