Whitey Morange once told me he had a friend who put a 24" f/6 Aero Ektar on a 9" x 9" Deardorff lens board, confirming it was indeed possible. I don't know, however, what his cells were mounted in...one of the shutters, or barrel converted.
I did fit a 12"/2.5 AE that was barrel mounted, on a 9" square board and tried it in a wooden box with gorilla-sized wood strips mimicking the typical LF lensboard method. Never mind that the whole mess was close to 25 pounds heavy. It was a proof of concept (or proof of insanity).
The problem with my 24/6 AE in K-18 shutter is that the shutter diameter is between 8" & 8.5". I don't remember the dimension (8.4-ish, IIRC) but there isn't much room, which affects the amount of clearance required to put a lensboard flush into a cavity and drop another wood plate retainer. I used 3/4" plywood for the board and retainer strips.
If I don't ask, I won't know...anyone do this previously?
It doesn't look impossible, just very awkward. The focus adjustment bushings (hollow posts with threads at one end) make the shutter sit in front of the lensboard be the same distance as shutter-to-back-edge-of-rear-cell.
