Well, I'm crazy too!!!! I love it! Here is the 8x20 front standard with the hardware, but it is not attached yet. The front is made out of walnut and I used Watco medium walnut Danish oil to finish it. I used the front tilt design from my Zone VI 4x5. The hardware is from a Kodak 2-D 8x10 that I got off of e-bay for a great deal. The brass cleaned up nicely. I am encouraged by the way this turned out. I made the front nobs out of walnut with brass knurled nobs inside. It was an experiment and they are kind of funky and are going to be replaced but I wanted to show them anyway. I'm moving on to the rails and bed after this is assembled. As I continue with this project my wood working skills increase and so by the time I get to the back maybe I can get it done fairly quickly.... Yeh, Right Jim... Oh well on to the rails.

Guys, thanks for the encouragement. I had to stop to eat. Now it's back to getting the hardware on this thing.
Argus, I'm going for the vintage look and i think this wood/oil combination will do it.Thanks.

really nice, so the finish is tru oil? is that the same as sometimes used for gun stocks?

Hi Jim,

Great to see your progress - it's looking great. I think I'm really sold on your recommendation to me on the danish oil for my camera as well. Perhaps I'll get to starting it this weekend (if work allows).

Dave, I think it is the same process, at least it certainly looks like it. The wood has a very smooth appearance, it almost glows! It makes you want to touch it. Thanks for the comments.

Dan, glad you checked it out. I think it's the finish to use. Ill post another picture when all of the hardware is attached.

Once you're done, put a layer of Bison wax on it. It really helps keep the dirt off of it and makes the parts move without wear.

I especially like it on the rear standard to help with sliding the film holders in and out without moving the camera.

Robert, Bison wax? That's one I've not heard of before. Where do you get it? Thanks

No, just kidding, try www.Rockler.com. "Neutral Liberon Fine Paste Wax" is what you want. (or really any non silicone based wood wax)

Robert, thanks for the info on Rockler. I think they have a store in Rosemead California, not far from where I live. Time to experiment!!?? Oh boy!!!
