finding a good plate holder can be frustrating. My favorite holder has gotten to the point where working with it is difficult. The silver nitrate has eaten away most of the wood and its falling apart so i decided to make my own out of ABS plastic. I have been working with some industrial designers I know and we have come up with a great design. I have been selling them on another forum but thought i would post them here as well. they tak a full sheet of 8x10 glass or tin and are $350 plus shipping ($11 domestic ) I have 4 left of the the first batch and will be making more if there is enough demand. A 4x5 version is in the works as well.
thanks for looking.

I would be super interested in this, probably a 8x10 later but a 4x5 I would pick up pretty fast. Please post when you have it developed (if you have a list of people interested please add me to this one).

cheers
Anders

Props to Jody on this wet plate back.... I have one in 8x10 and the fact that the main body and removable back are both made on a CNC machine, means they are very well made and thought out. ABS is silver resistant.... The biggest plus is that it takes a full size sheet of 8x10 glass or tin. Many of the modified and other plate holders out there do not go full 8x10. So if you can get glass in bulk cut to 8x10, that is a major hurdle of cutting out the way. GET THEM WHILE YOU CAN!!!

I cannot wait for the 4x5 version either! I did make my own back for my 4x5, but it was a square 4.5" x 4.5" image, and I'd like a full 4x5 too without having to make another back out of wood.

They seems good. I am saving up to try 8*10 wet plate. Starting to build up by saving for the gardening grow tent for mobile darkroom and chemical first. Guess when it reaches camera and film holder, I will contact you for one.

Can they be used on any normal 8x10 inch back or do I have to change also the back of the camera?

Thanks Armin

I'm currently saving up for a wet plate camera. If you end up making another batch, I'll definitely be interested down the road.

Andrew is right, the holder will work with any standard 8x10 back.

Jody these look like fabulous holders! I'm currently using the old wooden Graflex 8x10 pressure film holders, but as soon as it craps out (I give it a good year), I'll be on the lookout for one of your brand new models. :D
