hi
i am just now converting my beseler 45 mx into 8x10
i wondered why the original beseler has a a square riser box between the negative and the pyramidic casting above the Bellows ?
is there a particular reason for that or can i as well combine the two into one pyramidic unit ?
att. pic of a cardboard template.
this Construction gives a nice unobstructed wiew/line from all corners of negative to the lens.
it will be app. 7" or 17,5 cm high as on the original beseler conversion.

any ideas ??

Hi Klaus, I don't see any reason that the unit can't be built as you have shown. The pyramid shaped casting is attached to the enlarger, and the box shaped riser lifts off in my enlarger, but I can't see why they can't be made as one piece. One reason the top piece of the original may be square for a few inches below the light source is that there is a tray and access slot in the original box, presumably for filters, I don't really know, I've never used it for anything. The slope of your model would keep full size 12"x12" filters from being placed under the light source like I think the original part allows.

Will you be using an LED light source?
There have been a couple threads on this over at the large format forum regarding led panels as light sources.
Just make sure you have room for diffusion below the light source if necessary.

thank you both of you.
and thank to Claude for your Picture.
when you explained the lip inside the casting, i found another pic that i att.
is this what you are taking about?
i will make it into one piece.
yes, i am using led lights. actually it is 42 pcs of 3 W cree beads glued onto a 6 mm aluplate to disperse of heat.
i made it with 2 seperate Circuits, in case i need a smaller light output
they are quite chep from China.
one opal glass in the lightbox, just above the negative.
as for filters, i can use the "slot" that you normally use for the negative carrier.

i might att. Pictures when finished.
