7x17 problems. Please help.

No bleeding -- helps that the dividing line between the two negs is in the center on the film -- light is hitting there fairly straight on.

PT/pd print of Zion, and two images on a sheet of 11x14 film (inverted in PhotoShop):

Yeah -- that is the problem here...everywhere you point the camera is beauty. We had Duane Michaels out West for a workshop at the university -- noting the beauty, he said, its no wonder there are so many landscape photographers out here.

I’ve done the half darkslide trick with 8x10” and it works perfectly. It’s a lightweight, compact, and inexpensive way to carry a second format in a large format kit, plus you get two shots on every sheet of film. 4x10” has a similar feel to 6x17cm, so after a period of shooting both I sold off my bulky 6x17cm expansion back for my 4x5”. The aluminum expansion back needs a sturdy camera, so I used it on my 4x5” Linhof Tech V, but the half darkslide has no special requirements, so I can carry it with my ultralight 8x10” Gowland Pocket View.

I cut down metal darkslides for mine. With horizontal 5.5x14 I have to always compose the image for the upper half of the GG. The modified darkslide is heavy enough to slip a little if I try to use it with the image on the bottom half of the GG. I need to have the full 14" of the modified darkslide along the bottom of the film holder for it to be stable.

With 8x10, there usually is no problem, but one has to make sure the modified darkslide is straight in the holder before exposing. Using an 11x14 for 5.5x14s shares one of the advantages of the Ritter 7x17. The ease of doing verticals.

Ritter 7x17 on x-ray film, carbon work-print. (lens probably a 19" RD Artar) A little bit of glare on the print in the reproduction. My Boys, Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park

Thank you. It is actually a remake of one of the first images I made with the boys.
