7dayshop updates its pricing policies

Hi all,

Just thought you'd be interested to know that 7dayshop has updated its film prices - individual items are now substantially more expensive than before, but shipping is now free.

I think they have done it to try to lean towards more smaller orders (that total less than £18 to exploit the tax loophole) rather than less larger orders, which seems understandable.

I actually would prefer to buy my film in smaller batches on a rolling basis rather than hoarding a huge stash to push the maximum yield out of the (fairly hefty, if I remember rightly) postage, so I work out slightly ahead. Those that consume larger volumes are likely out of pocket.

Also, they mention that Kodak is discontinuing its Ektachrome 100GX line (!) - I've yet to hear it anywhere else and it's still listed by Kodak but they have a good record of being correct on these sorts of things

In case anybody is interested, the per-roll price changes on 35mm film ranges from 6p decrease on TMZ3200 to £1.49 increase on TMX100. The average increase is 49p. This of course means it is now cheaper if you are used to purchasing fewer than eight rolls at a time.

Bother

7day were always v competative with film prices - so I would order large quantities infrequently - and only get hit for one lot of postage charges

25 sheets of 5x4 HP5 has gone up significantly now £16.99 was £14.75 - its almost paying for the full packaging costs on every single item purchased.

Not good

Time to look around and do another price compare

I picked up on this forum via google alerts.
A friendly hello from a man on the inside! I do work for 7dayshop.
Now before anyone starts throwing rotten veg at me, please understand that the new pricing policy has been done with very good reason and I think will benefit most people, most of the time.
My intention is that whatever we sell, we will always attempt to be the lowest price DELIVERED to your door. I would ask people to check the competition by all means but don't forget to ask about the sometimes hidden carriage charge, then add that to the cost of the item.

Every day we will be adding multipacks for discount on consumable items such as film, batteries, memory cards and inkjet items, so if buying in bulk is your thing then you WILL see a saving.
So to reiterate:

door to door we aim to be the lowest price

If you have any specific requirements for bulk purchasing then please send a message via the website and likewise if you see that we are 'out' on price then let us know as we won't have it!

Other than that, I bid you a good day and if you have used us - thanks for the support! There is a whole lot more to come.

PS - Martin, can you find that Ilford 5x4 price anywhere for that price delivered? If so, can you post a link please.

Just got my e-mail from 7Dayshop tonight on this. Had a quick look at Fuji films and Ilford paper and allowing for the P&P charged by most U.K. based suppliers it still seems to represent a good buy. I 've noticed in the last week or so that most if not all Ilford stockists in the U.K. have hiked their prices up by a lot( way above current inflation and miles above what the projected rate will be in another couple of months), add on the P&P and 7dayshop has almost everybody beat, especially with a heavy item like paper.

It may be that Ilford has experienced an increase in its raw material prices and is forced to pass it on to the wholesalers but it's unfortunate timing, given that we are about to enter or are already in as serious a recession as I can recall seeing in the U.K. and unfortunately I have been around for a while. I am sorely afraid that on our economic wellbeing, as Ronald Reagan said: "You ain't seen nothing yet"

Lots more quantity break pricing to come, so be patient on that.
We will always offer the best value, it is never our intention to 'rip the people off' as it has been mooted elsewhere. Of course some of the prices have gone up, it would be impossible to give the old price AND the item delivered! Consumers can't have their cake and eat it.

Pentaxuser is correct on raw materials and also Ilford have put their prices up by at least 10%.
It's happening all over the place. We are being slated for putting up our prices on Epson, HP etc and 'palming it off' by sticking it on the carriage.
Not fair to assume that as I have seen Epson go up by 16% in some cases, couple that with a terrible euro rate and it's not hard to see where price increases come from.

One thing I will say, is that 7dayshop.com will ALWAYS offer the best price, delivered to your door. If we are out, then tell us.

I think I might have been a little hasty with my words

When I check round I found that 5x4 Boxes of HP5 were more expensive everywhere - as no doubt Ilford have been responding to the inevitable cost increases of almost everything

However, I would like to see 7Dayshop bring in a bulk buy discount - 5 off gets you ??% off the price, 10 off gets you ??+%

After looking at those prices delivered I am glad I can get most of that stuff at 1/2 the price with shipping in the U.S. That HP-5+ is almost twice what I would pay for it from Freestyle. The economy may be bad but I am not.

17m or 50ft of HP5 is £23.30 from silverprint. Assuming 5ft of film per 36 exposure roll, you get 10 x 36 for £23.30, or £2.33 per roll.

20 36exp rolls from 7DS is £50. That's £2.50 per 36 exp roll, a saving of 7%.

Not worth the bother, IMHO

Also - The suddenly weaker £ must be a real bonus for Ilford with, if I remember what Simon said correctly, 90% of their production being exported, a lot of that to the US.

Bulk film used to be really HUGE in the UK back in the 70's and early 80's, and a number of outlets made their bread & butter from it. My first job was at Harringay Photographic, spooling down 1000' rolls of Ilford's FP4 & HP5 cine stock into 17 & 30m lengths.

Then, round about '84 there was a sea change and the demand for bulk dropped drastically, which might have been partly consumer boom, partly the beginning of the end of the 'hobby' phase, and maybe the start of cheaper cassetted film coming on the market through gray importing.

I don't think the manufacturers perceive a significant market for bulk film any longer, and only see it as eroding packaged film sales, hence the small price difference.

I think I remember paying about £15 for it on 7day about 2 years ago, although probably about a 16 or maybe 16.50 if they sold it now.
