70mm roll film

I'm looking for 70mm roll film (no paper back). While I saw some outlets selling Ilford HP5 in 50' rolls, I was unable to find it on Ilford's website, which makes me wonder if it's discontinued? Does anyone know who is still making it?

Several years ago I searched for perforated 70mm film and could not find it. Since then several sources of 70mm have been mentioned here, including, I think, Ilford, but I have not paid attention. Ilford has a period in the spring for custom orders that just closed. You can get information from Simon Galley, who post on APUG regularly or from posted APUG threads.

I believe that you may have seen it because it was part of the Ilford ULF run for this year. I don't know the details about the ordering cutoff, but I do know that today, Friday, June 12, is/was the last day to order

Geez, just my luck to get interested in this at the very time the deadline is passing. Does this mean Ilford is discontinuing production, or that it takes orders each year? Also, does anyone else make 70mm long rolls?

i believe they accept orders every year around this time and cut off at the same time

They start taking orders around April every year. The first time I missed the period by one day. No worries it will come back.

For my taste 70mm film is prohibitive expensive in Ilford ULF run. It's more economical to shoot regular 120. A two or so years ago I was lucky enough to find economical supply of Kodak Double X Aerographic 70mm film and that is gone now. Your only bet is Ebay but some sellers are thinking that they are selling gold instead of expired, untested photographic film.
Are you looking to shoot 70mm film in your medium (6x6;6x7) format camera or to make some obsolete roll film format from it?

It's a regular yearly program, subject to yearly approval by the Harman board of directors. Meaning, they've done it every year for a while now, but no ironclad guarantee for the future. Presumably it depends each year on many different and constantly evolving economic factors.

The oddball film sizes they offer are not discontinued, they are simply once-a-year special order items. Participants know they must anticipate their needs and purchase a full 12-month supply in advance. A small price to pay when one needs strange format sizes of modern emulsions to feed to long discontinued, ancient, or bizarre cameras.

It's an extraordinary gesture of goodwill on their part that singlehandedly keeps the entire ULF, vintage, and antique camera market alive. And with it lots of photographic darkrooms. Without Harman's ULF program all of those cameras would be orphaned shelf display conversation pieces. And the darkrooms converted into stupid things like laundry rooms.

Who needs more laundry rooms? Most ULF camera users would rather wear dirty clothes anyway...

I'm dabbling with making an analog panoramic camera, and was hoping to use 70mm instead of 35mm. I'm not really going on the project yet, and will probably start with 35mm and see if I gives the results I'm hoping for.

IIRC, Maco Direct sells one or two 70mm bulk rolls. See if those films will do.

While Ilford does it only in their annual run, you can buy it from macodirect anytime.

I've also got an unperf roll of 160NC frozen here if you want to give me an offer on it. I think it's 100 feet but not sure.

Yes, the "70mm" processes starting from TODD-AO use 65mm negative and 70 mm perforated 65mm print film. The extra area on the print was originally used for magnetic sound tracks.

If you check the Motion picture catalog you will find the print film is called KODAK VISION Color Print Film / 2383 / Wide / VCP542 / 70 mm x 2500 ft roll

and spec 542 is width 70mm Perf 65 mm KS type S core

The Camera negative is all like KODAK VISION3 200T Color Negative Film 5213 / SP332 / 65 mm x 1000 ft roll and sp332 means 65mm perf KS1866 wound Emulsion In on a type P core with Latent image sequential numbers every 120 perfs

70mm Perforated 70mm is primarily for special aero and portrait cameras and does not normally exist as Motion picture film..
