I may be renting a 6x17 in the next month or so. I was wondering if anyone could help me fingure out what one would be the best one to rent. I know the fuji g617 can only focus as close as 3 meters, and i think i want to use a camera that can focus closer. Also I would like the option of being able to throw on a ground glass back to focus with a loupe. Does any one have any ideas of a camera brand/model to rent?

I think that most can only focus to 2-3meters or so. the Linhofs are hard to find FWIF. most rental houses that still rent out the 6x17 cameras are renting Fujis. I'd imagine that some might have the Linhofs, but be prepared to pay more for your deposit! like 2-3x more...

The places in New York that are likely to have a 6x17 for rent are Calumet and Lens and Repro. I'd call both and see what you can get.

If you need to focus closer and want groundglass focusing, it may be a better option to shoot 5x7" (or other large format if 17cm on the long dimension isn't essential) and just crop the negs.
