6x17 film scan UK good rate

Hello members, I am seeking to get 6 120 films scanned, shot in this format. I have been quoted high prices for a drum scan. Genie imaging cannot do it, as they need to split the 6x17 into 2. Is there a good soul out there who will take my negatives onto a flatbed scanner, cheaper than a drum scan? What scanner does Matt abinante use and is the epson V700 good enough?

I believe the 120 filmholder for the V700 is 20 cm long.

Dont do it with the film holder, instead wet mount the negative and scan it. I am not in the UK, but jump over to http://dpug.org/ and you will probably find someone with a V750 pro who can do wet mounting.

If a wet scan is unavailable the 700 and film holder should work. Some software such as Silverfast Ai Studio can make more than one pass and have adjustable resolution settings. As mentioned above DPUG should bring you more information and can be directly linked from the very top of this page.(DPUG.ORG)

You could try Ian Scovell (Dead Link Removed) who uses a very well set up Imacon or myself who uses a Howtek drum scanner (http://www.cheapdrumscanning.com) - prices are approx £9 for Imacon scan with Ian and £16 for drum scan with me. There are museum quality drum scans available from people like Precision Drum Scanning but their prices are substantially higher (they put a huge amount of effort into each scan).

Tim I will definitely consider this for some rolls. I will also consider buying a v750 as it does look the best option for home scanning.

Second-hand LS-8000 or LS-9000 is an even better option. Typically (secondhand) same price as a new V750 and you get much much better resolution.

I will second Ian Scovell. He did a stellar job on my 6x7 b+w reverse processed transparencies. I've currently also got a number of 6x17 panoramic b+w reverse processed transparencies waiting to go to him (funds a bit low at the moment after moving house ). He uses 6x17 format himself. He also scans Colin Prior's Fuji GX617 panos so has a wealth of experience...

If you're wanting to give your 617's a go yourself on an Epson (I've got a V700), use these custom holders, the 120 ones + the anti-relective glass are great for 120 film, and keep 617 flat.

But I'm not great at scanning or interested enough in it to learn more - my own scans are for basic archiving etc. Master scans are sent to a pro to get done properly...!

thankyou for your input. it looks like the coolscan series is out, as there is no holder for 6x17. could anyone comment on the merit of the canon canoscan 9000F vs the epson v750?

Canoscan won't do 6x17 at a resolution higher than 1200dpi (i've tried). It doesn't have enough internal memory or can't access ram fast enough to allow too large a file....plus the software is junk.
