6x17 enlarger build

I'm in the process of building an enlarger to print 6x17 negs. I'm using an old Devere 5x7 camera as the basis of the build and things are working out o.k so far. I've just got a couple of questions I'm hoping someone can help me with. Firstly I picked up a cheap Rodagon 210mm to use, but due to using the devere the fine focussing adjustment is to high to reach while using a fine focusser on 20 inch plus long prints. I rigged up a 135mm lens from my 5X4 enlarger, which brings the enlarger head much closer to the base board. First question will it be o.k to use the 135 lens or would it be better to look for a 150 or 180mm lens to use. Second question I'm using a Paterson focus finder, is there anything slighly easier to use?, when I was young I could focus just fine without any aid but with advancing years the old eyesight isn't what it used to be

I think to understand if the 135mm is ok you will just have to try it. If not, consider borrowing the 150 or the 180 untill you know.

I have had the same problem doing 20X24 prints on a Focomat IIc, sometimes it is very difficult to bridge the distance. There's a Paterson grain focuser that is taller than all of them, is that the one you use? I stick to the Peak, in the end I find the focus . . .

I thought they were easy to use.

I never tried one so don't know how good they are to use but durst and kaiser made focus viewers with the big viewing lens on front. I have been tempted to get one just to see if they are any good.

I think you'll be OK with a 135mm. I've used a 150mm on my De Vere 5108 for 617 negatives but taht was because at the time I hadn't putany of my 135mm enlarger lenses on a De Vere lens board.

My preference is a Hocus Focus from Nova Darkroom, and Les McLean used to recommend them, he's gone to the darkside now,

Bestwell grain focusers are easy to use. I have hte Micro Sight model and find the extra height compared with my Peak is very handy
