I just bought a Kodak folding camera specifically for the exposed roll of 620 film in it.This film has probably been exposed and in the camera for 60 years or so.I've got a fresh bag of D-76 that I'll use to develop it with. The film doesn't have any speed rating on it,it just says "Pan Film,Kodak,Verichrome Pan".I use Patterson adjustable reels and to me 620 film looks like 120,does it fit on the same size reel?Any development times, suggestions would be appreciated.ASs always thanks for any suggestions,Alan.

Thanks Brian, does anyone have any suggestions as to how much more/less development to allow for the age of the film?

You might try a clip test. If it were me, I just would give it six minutes in HC110 Dilution B. That's a more than recommended. You can always print through the fog. My understanding is that HC110 tends to fog less on outdated films.

I'd have to wait 'til Tuesday to get HC110,if available at all around here.I do have D76 on hand and the curiosity's killing me!

Well your post got me motivated. At the end of June a purchased a box of old darkroom supplies. At the bottom of the box ware two rolls of exposed but undeveloped 35mm film. One was Tri-X with DX codes and one was PanAtomic without and DX. I developed both in Xtol 1:1 at 73 degrees for 8 minutes. The Panatomic came out perfect. There were photos of people marching in a strike and from those signs I was able to date the exposures to 1983! The hair style also said early 1980s.

I developed the film last night,D-76 1+1,and the negs look good.People on vacation-typical family poses,a boy looking fed up and adults with "vacation" smiles.Judging by the clothes and one ladies glasses they were probably taken in the late forties or early fifties.I'll make a contact sheet today and get a closer look.Another roll of film saved from the landfill!

How much time? By the data sheet, or more for the age of the film?

The Verichrome Pan has to be after 1956 or 1957, as that's when Verichrome Pan replaced (orthocrhomatic) Verichrome. Verichrome Pan has fantastic latent image keeping qualities, which was important for it's target market of occasional snapshooters.

I gave it 10 minutes as opposed to 9.There is a very slight fog but I don't think it'll affect the print too badly.

There is a car in the background of one shot, not being a born and bred American,I can't tell what year it's from,I'll print that one as soon as I get a chance.
