Hi everyone,
I am hoping to build a 6x17 camera. As I have built up a collection of lenses for my 4x5 system ,I have made sure that each lens will also cover 6x17. Bearing that in mind I'd like to build a 6x17 view camera similar to a shen hao. The camera part looks fairly straight forward but I'm wondering where I can find plans/details to build a suitable detachable back/roll film holder for the camera. I don't know if anyone has built something like that or whether someone who owns a shen hao 6x17 roll film holder could comment, or any other input would be gratefully received

Welcome to APUG. If you search Google (maybe images) there's someone who built a fixed 6x17 camera and an insert it shows up quite easily, I have it saved somewhere but not immediately to hand. It look well made and could easily be modified/adapted for a different camera.

I'm planning to use some Graflex track-bed and guides (from 3x4 Graphic) that I bought 2 years ago along with a Super Graphic front standard that I modified to fit to build a 6x17/5x4 camera. The idea is it'll essentially be a wide angle camera and use Linhof/Wista lens boards, I currently use a 75mm SA on a fGaoersi 6x17 which I prefer to the 90mm.

My problem is often carrying a 5x4 and a heavy 617 camera (no movements) so a body slightly wider than a Crown Graphic cut away at the top for rise with a 75mm and a fixed bed (non folding) would be ideal, the Super Graphic standard has good rise, fall, shift and tilt forwards as well as back. I'm lucky because I have a lot of existing spare parts to work with no use for anything else (to me).

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

something wrong with this thread, Ian's reply got repeated 11 times
Thanks for the reply, I have seen the links you have provided, but they are for a rigid body camera whereas I am looking to build a view type camera and looking for some details to build a detachable camera back I can use on a view camera
