I have an old Voigtlander Avus I would like to toy with but the holders call for 6.5x9cm film. Can I use 2.25" by 3.25" in these? or will I need to cut down another size?

The conversion would be slightly greater the 2.5 inches by slightly greater the 3.5 inches for the dimensions that you quoted. The problem that I see using the format size that you mentioned is film flatness and film registration in correspondence to the viewing mechanism. I would be more inclined to check out cutting down 5X7 film. If it works out each sheet would give you four sheets of the format that you have. I would check to see what the dimension standards are for 5X7 format before I got too far along with that idea though. Since the actual 5X7 film dimensions will be slightly less then the commonly quoted dimension.

Another thought would be to contact Photo Warehouse as they will cut film to your dimension. I believe that Midwest Photo is now offering the same service. However, I noted that Midwest Photo's pricing was more expensive then Photo Warehouse.

The problem is that 6.5x9 is a Eurpoean size, and it's not comatible with US/Imperial sizes. There is no problem finding 6.5x9cm over here (MACO Genius is very easy, from www.monochrom.com, website in German only)!

The Avus is a lovely little camera, and I'm glad to hear you want to use it. I've just been out with the "big brother", a Bergheil 9x12cm. I use it for "street photography"! Nobody seems to believe I can take sharp pictures with that ancient thing, so in a way it's even more unobtrusive than a Leica. But the sharpness is astounding...

Well, I contacted J and C and they said that 6.5 by 9 was coming in the fall. So I did the only logical thing and found a 9x12 Avus, cleaned it up and ordered that film. Looking forward to some fun Labor day shooting.
