5X7 Elwood

I just bought an Elwood enlarger for next to nothing. What is the difference between a studio model and the SP model. Also I was reading on here that about a year ago someone had a copy of the manual posted. I checked the link and it was no longer available. Any one else had a copy they can post. This one is in pretty good shape. Bellows will need taped but other wise just a cleaning. I can wait to play with it. Now just as long as my wife doesn't go into the darkroom. You know "Just how many enlargers do you need".

That might have been me. It's available here : Dead Link Removed as long as my computer (this is served from my home) is up and running. I won't turn it off until about 9:00pm Eastern today.

Thanks Boys, thats exactly what I was looking for. The difference between the two, the Special has the masking plates and a larger bulb. That is the one I have.

Great fun to read that manual and see the price list at the end! The price for the baseboard...$25....wouldn't even cover the cost of postage to send it somewhere now.

Hey, I got the one listed in NC, good to see a APUGer get the one up there! I am picking mine up on Thurs, hope it will fit in the truck. Best I can tell they were made from the 30's up until the 50's maybe even the 60's.

Picked mine up with no issue. It is the Special model as well but needs some cleaning. It has an original bulb, all the diffusing glass, and neg carrier for 5x7. ONly thing in bad shape was the lens. It is a 161 Ektanon that looks like it was cleaned with steel wool, no cleaning wisps, more like brillo pad. The question I have is what would be a good replacement, 161 seems short for 5x7, would something over 200 be more appropriate? I will be using this for 5x7, 4x5 and 3x4 for prints up to 12x16. Budget is a concern, willing to use an old Wolly or another Ektanon.

The lens that came with mine was a Wollensak 162mm. I am using mine for enlarging 4x5 BW negs and I switched to a SK 135mm lens so that I could do bigger prints from a smaller crop without cranking it all the way to the top.

Mine came with a 135. As John Bartly said it covers 5X7 without needing a 10 ceiling. Mine also has original bulb. Duct Taped the bellows. Perfect. Also came with a 3.25 X 4.25 holder. Just need to come up with some contrast filters. Ain't E-bay great

A 180 lens is listed as appropriate for 5X7 by Schneider. But anything in that range that will cover the negative should be fine. In fact I agree that a 200 FL plus would be better.

By the way, I drove all the way to east Tennessee for mine about 7 years ago. Won it on E-bay and the seller then realized how much trouble it would be to ship it. So my wife and I took a small vacation trip.

Mine came with a cast aluminum baseboard and all the glass but no lens or lensboard.

I was told once that the Elwood company was primarily a foundry!

I live in Cheraw, S. C. about 2 hours East of Charlotte.

It would be interesting to know how many Apuggers have Elwoods. I got my 8x10 version in the East Tennessee area too and did a similar jaunt to get it.

I have 2 5x7 Elwoods one is a yard art piece and the other is out of commission in storage. I sent it to the store room when the Durst 138s arrived.

Hi guys.New here. Got my Elwood used in 1964. Got a Wollensak 7.5 inch enlarging Raptor later that year. Still have it and it is still going strong after 40+ years. Yoused to be it was easy to get accesories for but don't know now. Haven't tried ebay but may take a look later. 5x7 is one of my favorite formats
