I assume it's probably not much better in an objective sense than what you've already tried. I associate a swirly bokeh with fairly rudimentary lens designs which generally don't excel in terms of edge-to-edge sharpness, even illumination etc.Bokeh Character Strong swirl.

e differentI used to have an Elmo 50mm pc lens which was very good. But that was with a Carousel screw thread and an Ektapro rack. Are 42.5mm threads used in cine projection?
