It's been an aeon or two since I woke up the Cirkut camera obsession. I'm trying to downsize. Not the collection, the size of the images. 10's are so big it just makes everything else associated with the images more work. So I thought, how about a 5 Cirkut.

Arrived on Saturday. Photographed this image on Sunday. Developed today. Obviously, there's work to do! Light leak on my self wound leader. Etc. Etc. Etc. But I considered this a win . . . for now. And it was a LOT easier to get this far than doing the same image with the #10.

Hopefully it will have the hourglass with the plus to let you make it big. Nope. The "thumbnail" is the link to the bigger image if you desire to have a look.

This was with the 11" component of the Rapid Rectigraphic lens. 5" Aerial Recon Panatomic X. Slid into a 3" X 47" pipe with solid cap at one end and screw cap at the other. Developer was PyroCat 1:1:100 and I made enough to fill the tube full and let it stand develop for 15 minutes.

Anyways, nice to be back, and I'll give you two guesses which car I drove up in. ;~'))

Yeah Light leaks are tough with this camera and home spooling. I've had the same issue. Cutting the leader as accurately as you can helps. What did you do for spools?

Cut down #10 spools on a lathe. I'm in the process of building a film cutter to cut 9.5 exactly in half. When I do that I can get 2 good oversize leaders out of any leftover #10's. I just cut new leader 1mm oversize out of old #10 leader this morning. We'll try again soon. Also building some 'washers to center the 5" film on the spools so there's a tiny overlap of leader on each side. Plus I've got one of the black jackets for the 8X20 and I'll use it next time I load the "daylight" loads.

If you love creative problem solving, Cirkuts are your camera!

Can you help me out with the plasic idea. Where do you get the paper thin opaque plastic. Great idea as I am already concerned when the old Kodak paper is all beat up.

At one point I got some pre spooled #10 film from stanley stern. He did it that way, but I was skeptical. Nonetheless I tried it and it works well.

Is it like this stuff here? Is a single layer opaque, or does it take several? Thanks so much for your help.

Oh, and John, I have 2 #5's built on the same day, 2 serial numbers apart, both fantastic, so one of them should hit the market soon. I'm fighting off my hoarding instinct. 46726 and 46728. I'll be keeping the newer one. Both are very strong runner's.

That looks about right. I check by holing it up to the light. You do have to also watch for the very occasional pinholes
