Anniversary Speed Graphic with Zeiss Tessar 15cm (150mm) f3.5 lens in Compur dial shutter with speeds from 1 sec to 1/200th (all sound accurate, but haven't been tested with film); bulb and T settings work fine, and the blades look good. (This is an uncoated lens).

This Speed has had its focal plane shutter removed, so it is about that same weight as a Crown Graphic -- and it is a user body, with missing leatherette on the front standard panel and no rangefinder, viewfinder, or handle. However, the ground glass looks fine, and the bellows look light tight; has the Graphic back, so it takes standard 4x5 sheet film holders.

Included with the camera are 2 4x5 Fidelity film holders with dark slides, a cheap 8x loupe, a cable release (it fits the lens but it is not a long throw), and a changing bag (the basic model, not a tent bag).

Is it attractive? No. Will it work for handheld 4x5 or basic landscape photography? Yes.

Asking $125 plus shipping for everything.

PRICE DROP: NOW $95 FOR EVERYTHING

Decided to drop the price to $95 for the lot -- the changing bag and the 4x5 holders (one old style, one new) are worth at least $45, which means that you get a "lighter" Speed Graphic with a Zeiss Tessar lens for $50.

Would this be a good "starter" kit into LF? Looking for something backpack-able as well.

If I didn't already have 3 crown/Speed Graphics, plus a Super graphic I'd snap it up :D

The f3.5 Tessar's of interest as it faster than most Tessar's but then I don't use wide open.

Aris, if you don't need movements this is a great camera, for backpacking as well, but for landscape work a little front tilt/rise & fall is very useful and |Speed & Crown graphics can be restrictive,

Ian

The bed does drop on this -- but you're right about the movements.

However, for many landscape shots, if you are shooting at infinity, a little front rise is all you need if light is adequate (and the lens is fast enough).

And all for the low, low price of $95 ...

What does it mean to have the focal plane shutter removed? Does it affect the way it functions? Still interested if it doesn't sell.

Have you subjected the bellows to the "flashlight test"?

Speed Graphic came with an ultra fast focal plane shutter (this was a press camera, after all) built into the body as well as the shutter behind the lens -- it only affects the operation if you planned to use a barrel lens that you don't have mounted in a shutter.

Every normal large format lens comes in a shutter of some sort, so it doesn't affect the normal operation of the camera -- and the lens it comes with has a Compur dial shutter.

It means you need to use lenses that are mounted in shutters which covers a majority of LF lenses in use today. The FP shutters proved to be more trouble than they were worth and were discontinued.

Bellows pass the flashlight test ... kind of dusty on the outside, but I'll clean it up a bit before I ship to whoever decides to buy it....

I was wondering if that was part of the deal John. Does the FP shutter go with the camera?

No, the focal plane shutter is not available -- it has been stripped, which, in most cases, makes it more desirable (because it is lighter now).
