I'm on the lookout for a reflex finder that can be adjusted for portrait/landscape. The linhof one is a bit pricey and I'm wondering what alternatives are there to buy [I cant make stuff]
aren't viewers specific to the camera you're using? i didn't think there was a universal one out there - besides the cambo which will work on the dlc. i've owned horseman, linhof, and arca viewers... the arca is hands-down the finest of the lot. i'm selling one now, but only because i sold my arca camera!
I have a reflex viewer for my Arca and find it a bit of a pain really. It's a lot of extra bulk and one more thing to attach to the camera while setting up. But it came with the Arca which had been my only 4x5 experience so I didn't know any better. Then at the conference I took Peter Shrager's Intro to LF workshop and found that just working off the ground glass was a lot more enjoyable for me. It was so much quicker and I find my brain has an easier time translating the upside-down image than it does when working with one that's right-side up but still reversed left to right.
So now I'm going to start leaving the reflex viewer at home and see how I feel with working off the ground glass on the Arca.
