1) I once had some film holders with a built-in system for numbering negatives. I found them very useful for some of my work. I cannot find them, nor have I been able to find them in the usual places: no one seems to know what I'm talking about. Does anyone on this forum have any leads? Or maybe you can share your system of"numbering" your large format negatives at time of exposure.

2) On the B&H site, their listing for the Rite-Way film holder says "not recommended for Linhof cameras". Why is that?

Graflex holders will number the negatives 1 through 6.

You can also modify any standard 2 sheet holder to put little "pips" of light at one edge of the film by filing little grooves in the holder. Use a binary numbering scheme.

Linhof holders also had a little number tag which was exposed onto the film - the later linhof holders at least, (maybe) not the "universal" holders.

Some of mine still have the number tag intact, but most have lost them. I've seen two fluttering away, too...

Renato,

Film holder did come with some type of number system, those days are gone. I don't like things entering the image area of the film so that was out for me. Fileing the edge of the holder is ok but some times I print full neg (rebate and all). What I do is carry small posta-note pads in my car-film bags-camera-pocket (all over the place). I make a notation and put it on the holder (1 holder 2 shots). When processing, the notes remind me of the day or spot. I process one side then the other (I can adjust). This works for me, Just remember to not pull the dark slide and post it through the felt trap.

2 The Last Rite-way holders with the release button do not work in Linhofs because the camers will not push the release button so you can not take out the dark slide.

hope this helps

Good Morning, Renato,

My newest Riteway holders have a numbering capability. By "newest," I mean probably 15 years old, maybe a little more.
