4x5 enlargement question

How does one figure the maximum area of the 4x5" frame that can be used for enlargement to 18x24"? I will be shooting some food shots for a cyber cafe to be used in back lighted displays behind the counter. I have a Schneider 210 and 90 mm lens for my 4x5". I don't know at present which lens I will use. But whatever I decide will be used on all five shots as the art director wants each of the frames to be mounted very close together to simulate a panorama. I worked as an assistant to a very good food photographer in the 80's and have a pretty good idea of how to light and stage what I want but I cannot remember how to figure the maximum area of the 4x5" frame to be used. :rolleyes:

An 18x24 has a 3:4 aspect ratio, which means you'd need to crop the 4 inch dimension down to 3.75 inches (3.75 x 5 enlarges to 18x24). So I'd take around a quarter inch off the 4 inch dimension and mark your ground glass with a wax pencil.

If it were me, I would go for a bit lower magnification and crop to get your final image. With an 18x24 print from a 4x5 you are under 4x magnification so you have plenty of room to crop - that will make it easier to line up the final prints anyway.
