I've been printing 13x19 negatives (using Inkpress transparency film) on my Epson 4800, but about 1 time out of 3 the printer prints the first inch or so, pauses, then ejects the transparency as if it were done. I contacted Epson and they had me set a new paper configuration for transparencies, which I did, but it happened again today (an inch then ejected).

Anyone else have this problem or a suggestion?

Hi-- I used to have a problem with my Epson 4000 that sounds kind of similar to your problem. It would print a digital neg to some point then quit and eject the pictorico as if everything was finished. I talked to various experts and the concensus was that it was a spooling problem with my computer. I don't really know what that means except that the computer sorta stores up the data being sent in a buffer this was having problems. What seemed to help was an operation called "rebooting the P-RAM".
On a Mac you restart the computer. As it is restarting you will hear chime sound. Immediately hold down Option-Apple-P-R (yes, you hold down four keys at once). Keep holding until the chime sounds 3 more times.

This esoteric operation helped me for a few weeks, then needed to be done again. What fixed the problem was upgrading to a new mac, more processing speed, more memory, more money, etc.

Have no certainty this is your problem or not, but it might be worth trying.

Cheers, Ron-san

Thanks, Ron-san. I have a PC, not a Mac, but may be able to find the equivalent operation. I'd be surprised though if it were a memory problem since prints of larger size on paper are fine (these are about 13x13 on film, and I've printed 16x16 on paper without a similar problem).

Hi again--

I do not pretend to understand it, but I also found that prints on paper worked just fine, it was the negs that aborted. Anyhoo, yours may be a totally different problem. Cheers, Ron Reeder

I had the same problem with an HP 9180. It would often not recognize the OHP material, even though size was the same as paper supports. I wondered if there is some kind of optical recognition path in these printers?
