There are 4 workshops coming up at VCP in January and February:
For details and signup see the events page at www.vcphoto.org

Feb 21st "Simple Black & White Darkroom Techniques For Making Better Prints"
Instructor Peter Bosco, $85.00

Spend a day in our darkroom and learn to evaluate a negative and formulate a plan to make a fine print of it. Topics to be covered include evaluating contrast, tonality and the ideal size in which to produce a print that best fits the subject matter. The instructor will do demonstrations in the darkroom with all “tech” talk demystified.

A straight forward, easy to understand approach to black and white traditional “wet” darkroom methods, this workshop is for beginner and intermediate level photographers.

Participants should bring sample prints, negatives and contact sheets of their own for critique. *no individual printing involved

January 31, "Showing Your Artwork Professionally"
Instructor Maurine Sutter $90.00

For artists working in all media who are ready to take the next step towards exhibiting, publishing and marketing their work, this one-day workshop will cover the basics you need to get started or improve on the promotional materials you have already produced.

The essentials of how to prepare your work for gallery submission and juried shows, along with the importance of editing your portfolio will be covered.

You will get tips on writing or improving your artist statement, resume and curriculum vitae along with the “nuts and bolts” of doing your own press release and publicity.

Participants should bring a portfolio or sample prints of their work, with any/all of the written supporting materials mentioned above, even if they are just first drafts, or “works in progress” so that we may work on them during class.

March 5th "Discovering Your Personal Vision"
Instructor Ron Rosenstock $135.00

Discover what qualities separate a fine photograph, one that is enduringly meaningful from those considered ordinary and quickly forgotten. Gain new understanding about the techniques that worked for such masters as Edward Weston and Ansel Adams, that may help you improve and refine your own approach to image making.

We will spend time doing an image sharpening exercise and then continue on to discuss the importance of developing a theme as a way to direct your work, rather than just moving in a haphazard direction.

The essentials required for getting to the final goal, that of a cohesive body of work will be covered; starting with basic camera controls and moving on to digital techniques for fine print adjustments, use of common software applications, and where best to direct your creative energies. All levels of experience are welcome.

And a digital workshop aimed at beginners;

January 12 "Learning to Use Your Digital Camera"
instructor Al Karevy $85.00

Have you become frustrated trying to use your new camera? Are you mystified with the manual and all the “tech talk”? Perhaps you are confused by so many options that the camera offers that leave you overwhelmed.

For beginners and intermediate digital camera “drop-outs”, this class will help demystify what seems to be a “mini-computer” and move in the direction of taking pictures with you in control of the camera instead of the other way around. Get the basics explained in plain English and discover the many benefits of digital photography, maybe even learn to like your camera! Bring both the camera and manual to class.
