Hi - I recently pulled a 35mm pentax lens out to use and it had been damaged. The focus will not go to infinity and the Automatic/Manual slide switch is really loose, does anyone know of a repair shop that will charge a reasonable amount to fix it?

Thanks, Tim

Tim. When posting these kinds of enquiries, you may want to consider saying where you are located. Otherwise a lot of replies may be useless.

Oops, you are right. My location is southern michigan, about 90 minutes east of Chicago.

Ah. This unfortunately rules me out and probably all non N American based contributors. Still if it's any consolation, I suspect you're better off in S. Michigan based on a comparison of U.K. v N. American prices.

Best of luck

I have no idea if they are any good but a google search came up with Midwest Camera Repair. www.midwestcamera.com

You may be surprised/disapointed in the cost of repair vs buying a replacement used item.

It likely will be far cheaper to find a used one than to have this one repaired.

John and Jim are correct. It cost lots more to have your lens repaired than replaced.
Find another, then gather all the information you can about repairing your lens and have a go at it. I am batting about .800 in camera/lens fix-up.It's worth a try.

Try www.pentaxs.com. Eric does a good job - sometimes fixing an old known lens can be better than buying another unknown one.

Hey thanks for all the replies! I was wondering about a replacement Vs. repair. I think you are all correct in that a replacement would be much cheaper.

Tim,

I don't know where your Michigan location is, but about 10-12 miles due west of Ann Arbor is a dandy camera store called Huron Camera. It is in Dexter, Mich., a quaint little town, near the town square. I have taken Pentax lenses to them in the past, and the on-site repair crew give a quick estimate. Also, there was a huge section of display cases devoted to used gear. This was a couple years ago, so you might want to call ahead. Loads of new stuff too.
