Hi eveyone.
I just got a century view very similar to this one:

http://www.fiberq.com/cam/century/cent2.htm

I have the possibiliy to get a 300mm symmar s, which I would love to use. I'm just wondering if the front standard can take such a heavy lens (at 1100 kg it's not exactly light weight).
I know it was much more commen to use big lenses in those days so hopefully there should be no problem, It's just I haven't recieved the camera yet, and the lens will be gone by the time it arrives if I don't snap it up now.
My main concern, actually, is the way the lens board attaches with internal springs instead of clamps, and whether the strain on the springs will be too mcuh, but maybe this is a non issue. It just that I've never used a camera with this type of system of attaching lens boards, so I don't know how stable it is.

Best Regards

At 1100 kg you couldn't even lift it :D

It shouldn't be a problem, a Kilogram isn't that bad, I have a 12" Grundlach Radar (much heavier) on an Agfa Ansco which is quite a similar camera the main issue is making sure the mounting flange is well screwed on to the lens board.

Hmmm my Century takes a Vertio [I think it is a Vertio and not the other one] that makes the 300mm Symar-S look tiny.

Thanks.
I wont worry then...
I'm off to get the lens tomorrow

Yes, double the weight of the 300 Symmar easily. I hang large Petzval brass types on mine. It groans but bears it beautifully.

Ok, I'm convinced beyound any doubt!
Thanks Guys.
Ic-racer I've already bookmarked the thread, your camera looks amazing (as does your enlarger!). Mine should be in great working order, although a little challenged cosmetically. Besides my 300mm symmar-s I also have a Sironar-N 210mm that I plan to use, I guess the coverage of the 210 symmar-s and the 210 sironar-N are about the same?
Best Regards
