2nd Mystery on Film

I found something else on my film today that I can't explain. This roll was shot to test out a new lens so I'm hyper critical about things I dont understand. Please look at the left side of this image. There's a big blob of something that I cannot really explain. Is this possibly related to all the lens flare seen in the rest of the image? I have my doubts about that. The negative just shows a big large black spot on the left side of the image. Thank you for your help!

Is it on every frame, or just one? Looks like something light-colored was close to the camera (if just one frame anyway).

Yes, it's not in line with the flare spots. Obstruction, maybe a pedestrian?

Sorry to not mention this. I found this on only this frame, not any other. It's an ultra wide angle lens and it's possible something was off to my side, but from the looks of it, I can't identify it as anything recognizable. It would have to be a person as I'm standing right in the middle of the sidewalk.

Wouldnt a pedestrian be somewhat recognizable?

Obstruction such as one’s own scarf, thumb, etc. It’s out of focus, so it is not an object contacting the film.

Maybe not exactly a pedestrian, but someone's shopping bag or loose clothing flying into the frame. With a very wide lens, you likely wouldn't have noticed them at the time.

Usually something like that is my own fault, looks too close to be caused by somebody else.

It's an out of focus item, so it has to have been really close to the lens to be that. And with wide angle lenses one really does have to look around all of the frame to make sure nothing is in view that shouldn't be. BUT, it's happened to me and I'm sure many others and will continue to do so with no explanation.

Put it down to bad luck. Don't worry about it and be glad that it's just on one frame.

Wow.....the shape would seem to indicate this is a possibility!! Damn, this is such a wide angle lens if true!! (30mm f/5.5 on my Fuji TX-1).

My concern is just with the lens. This is my first time shooting with it and I am testing it to make sure I bought a functional item. It's the Fuji 30mm f/5.6 lens for their TX-1 camera and it is VERY expensive. By far THE most expensive lens I have ever purchased. I can't afford for anything to be wrong with it at this price.

Well, I think there's no question that it is something outside the camera.

Ratty, the 30mm lens you have has 94 degrees of horizontal image coverage‚ comparable to a 17mm lens in 35mm, close to a full frame fisheye, so it's not unreasonable to get yourself in the photo since it's a rangefinder camera.

In case you are concerned that shutter or aperture are broken: they both appear to be fine, as seen by looking at the very regular and octagonal light flares. Neither aperture, nor shutter would appear as sharp object in your image frame, even of one of their leaves dangled off inside the lens. Whatever happened here, it happened most likely outside and independent of your lens.
