I like 50/35 so much I have two of each : )

Also disagree that 35mm is too close to 50mm.
But, for me, 28mm is too close to 35mm, so there's a 25mm and 21mm in my bag too.

I find the 28 to b e too wide for portraits. Heads tend to become mis-shapen out near the edges. I use 35 and 50 on both my Leica M3 and my Contax IIIa.

The 28mm is nice, I use it even for portraits. I want to trim down my kit to just 2 lenses, a 100mm and 28m.

A 35 and 80mm would be a good combo but I don't own either. I mostly shoot 24 and 50 out and about.

I have 50mm, 35mm, and 28mm lenses. Rarely do I carry the 35mm and 28mm at the same time. Rarely do I carry the 35mm and 50mm at the same time.

When I need to shoot large groups of people, I will carry a 28mm f/2.8 instead of a 35mm. I will also carry a 50mm lens for full-length portraits.

When I am shooting people with only two prime lenses, my first choice is a fast 35mm with a fast 85mm.

My second choice is just one fast zoom lens such as a 35-70mm f/2.8 or 28-70mm f/2.8.
