22kt Gold Plated.

Found a 503cw Gold Supreme kit today in a local camera store.
The guy wants £4k for it.
Interestingly it is brand new. Really brand new, un-sold and still in its original sealed bag.
It is a thing of beauty and I want it but is £4k a good price?

It is not a camera that you buy to take pictures so it is hardly surprising that it is still in the original box. The price seems a bit steep but it has been a few years since I saw one of these sold (and that was at about 2/3 of that price).
Unless you're a collector I think you should buy another one and use the rest of the money for film and paper.

Pentax produced a limited edition gold plated LX, with a gold plated f1.2 50mm to go with it. It had lizard skin in place of the plebeian black covering, and the lens focus ring was also lizard skin. And of course Leica seems to introduce some sort of special edition camera all the time, it seems.

A gold-plated camera with red leatherette would be perfect for taking pictures of the family on Christmas!

Now, seriously... if I could burn money like that, I would use the damn camera. Hasselblads and Leicas weren't made to sit on a shelf. In fact, no camera should ever sit unused on a shelf.

Argus made an early camera in brass that looks sorta gold-ish. I have one. Probably every bit as useful as this Hassy since, after sitting unused and sealed for gowd knows how many years, it probably doesn't work.

I originally thought 4k was quite steep.
Having thought about it, I could pay 3 to 4k for a high end digital sir without a lens.

I think we've all seen the price of them when they are superseded.

I may be quaint and old fashioned but in my book they are cameras for pimps, I wouldn't be seen dead with one if they were giving them away.

It would fit in nicely with sagging Levi's 560s, a nice XL t-shirt and a flat-brimmed New Era cap (turned around, obviously!) A pair of Adidas Superstars like this would be the cherry on the top:

Considering the look of it, I doubt that it's plated because it's a matte finish.
Most/all of the gold Feds etc. were high gloss.
It does look like something our president might have to have though.

Yes Chris, it is that model.
As I said, still in it's original bag, untouched by anyone outside Hasselblad.

It would be an expensive ornament at the end of the day though.
