2 years old shot Negatives kodak trix extol 1:1 problem

mystery solved.
Here is a XX with the same dev.
Everything is nice and dark.
I checked some older Kodak TriX and Tmax and they have ”whole not as fading” grayish
Edge prints.
They are maybe running the edge print machine faster to pump more films out resulting in not fully exposed edges.

More likely the film experienced some adverse conditions - either in your hands or before you got it - and that impacted the latent image retention, without significantly affecting other factors.
The equipment that is currently used for the edge printing is extremely advanced, because it is also used for the key codes on the motion picture films, and they are quite critical for the users of those products.
You never responded to my questions about the film itself - i.e. "Was the film a single roll or part of a bulk roll, and what was the Develop Before date? Did you buy it directly from a retailer?"

Directly purchased 3-4 years old shot 2 years ago. Sat in a 74-75F room.
But it is exactly the same for the 5222 approximately the same age purchased and shot.
Now I am looking over older negatives and ALL THE KODAKS are not completely black but the other brand negatives are ok.
Unless the 5222 is more stable to storage

The question how is the frame not gray but the edge font is? Leads me to believe it was not exposed in the factory

I don't understand this line of reasoning.

The edge print is exposed in the factory. It's not tightly controlled in terms of density. It fades over time (prior to development). Hence, it can be lighter or darker.

More likely it was exposed to the standard Kodak density, rather than the higher Ilford or Foma or Kentmere or Ferrania or ..... density.
Too much density would potentially be a problem in the much more demanding world of motion picture film.

So still no information about the develop before date. And the edge printing represents exposure a minimum of 3 years ago, and potentially much earlier.

I have developed 10 years old trix and have not seen difference between edge font and film emulation.

So you now see how edge print densities can vary widely, depending on factors that are beyond your control.
