I had SK Grimes manufacture an adapter from Series-size thread to 37mm thread so that I can put a 0.5X wide angle adapter on my 5.5mm Bolex H8 Rex lens.
As you may know in the Bolex 16mm line they made a wide angle adapter for the 10mm lens, but as far as I can tell they never made a wide angle adapter for the 5.5mm lens for the H8 cameras.
Bolex Aspheron converter for comparison (10mm to 5.5mm for 16mm cameras):
This works great. It provides full frame coverage.
No, for a number of reasons. I don't think my 5.5mm will cover. I know it won't cover with the 0.5X converter. I don't think my fancy EE 8-36 Switar Zoom will cover either. Also, There were more choices in regular 8 B&W in the last 15 year or so (well three, Cine-x, Super Cine-x and Foma). Howerver, looks like its going to be down to Foma as the only B&W regular 8 and DS8 now also.
SK Grimes also made a threaded adapter for my 8-36mm Switar EE zoom from Series-size threads to 49mm so I could mount a wide angle adapter on that zoom. My film gate is just under 8mm in diagonal, so the adapter makes it into a real Wide to Long zoom.
Ic, I don't recall where I read it -- possibly The Super8 Book -- but I understand that a fairly simple machining operation will allow the 5.5/1.8 Switar in H8Rx mount to cover S8. Your zoom should cover S8. I went S8 back when because of the larger image, would have gone 9.5 if I'd had faith in the availability of stock.
