For those of you who are in the Washington DC area, there is a very nice exhibition at the National Galley East of (then mainstream now alternative) landscape photography as practiced from its inception to the late 1890's.

Lots of giant prints (like 20-30 inches, did they have such big cameras then.) Majority of them seem to be albumen prints. Some salts from the earlier period (40-50's) - all different shades and textures. Many daguerrotypes, cyanotypes, platinums, including one carbon by Steichen as well. Unfortunately I went a little late in the day so was not able to linger and study the nuances. Will have to go again.

Anyway, if you can it is worthwhile visiting.

Thanks very much. Great information that I probably wouldn't have known otherwise. I hope it's still running when I next get to D.C.
