Very clean HB&H Petzval portrait lens in 8x10 size. 14" Focal length with 10" back focus. I am estimating this lens is between f/4.5 and f/5. Glass is very clear and clean. While there are few whispy cleaning marks and a rub or two on the the massive glass elements, but they are of no real importance and no effect because its such a tiny area of the overall glass. Very minor. Glass is otherwise VERY clean and clear - no separation, no fungus. Would grade glass a strong 8+
The barrel is in complete and excellent condition - no dings or dents to mention ! Brass probably cleaned a long time ago but a new patina has formed... All parts are present including spacer ring. No waterhouse stops included but easily made with cardboard.
It does appear at one time (probably a century ago) there was a repair or replacement to the radial drive. See image where old screw holes remain. Having said that, the radial drive is correct for the lens. Very insignificant and vintage repair. Lens focuses easily and freely with drive. Very clean and vintage repair.
Original flange included.
Serial # dates to 1859 +/- 1.
This lens is perfect for someone who wants to shoot a historic, American made, pre-civil war, 8x10 portrait lens.
RARE TO FIND IN 8x10.
$ 2,399 plus shipping from Boston.
