Here are some quick snaps of my newly constructed 14x17 monorail. I’m interested in hearing your suggestions about adding a geared focus to the front or rear standard. What gears would you use and why? I may have to redesign part of either standard but that is possible. After building the camera I'm just feeling like I really want a geared focus on either the front or back. Perhaps I'll be satisfied with the friction focus but I dont know. I would love to hear any suggestions you might have.

The basics camera features rear tilt only, front tilt, swing and rise fall. The bellows are short to shoot wide angle but are removable and allow for adding a long bellows in the future. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask.

Nice job! My Anthony and Scovill 14x17 has geared front focus and friction focus in the back. I often do the fine focusing with the back standard simply because the front standard may be racked out beyond arm's length. I have no problem with focusing the rear this way. Try it the way it is. Don't put the time and effort into the gear focus mechanism if you don't really need it. What are you doing for film holders?

Thanks Kerik, I have designed the camera back to accept the Fidelity Medical 14x17 film holders. I presently have two of these holders and would like to find more at some point.

What you say about adding the focus to the rear makes good sense. I'll have to so some shooting to determine if I really need it or not. Its a bit bouncy on the rail for fine focusing as is.
