Just got an older 14 inch red dot Artar lens in a #4 ilex shutter to use on my 5X7 camera and the use of filters is eluding me. Clearly the inside threads are just designed to hold the lens elements in place as they are an oddball thread, and the outside slip on measures 51.5mm.
Just curious what other people have done to mount filters on this lens. I would love to use 67mm as my other 180mm lens uses that size.
There are a few options:
1) Have S.K. Grimes make a slip-on adapter....slick, but $$$.
2) Use a spring-clamp square gel filter holder
3) Cobble up a Series filter adapter combo setup that works for you.
4) Get a compendium hood that has filter slots.
Hope this helps, others may chime in with other ideas.
Or the Jay Dusard trick..... a piece of foam core with a hole cut out and a gel filter glued to it....
I used this trick on a 90 Super Angulon XL.... no vignetting and far cheaper than big filters
Stephe if you can get to series 8 then you can use your 67mm filters directly on that ring. Most series adapters that slip on are easily adjusted. They usually have a bunch of "tongues" that can be bent either way so a 52mm slip on will fit no problem. I'd say $15 for a ring that works that Kodachromeguy linked to is a steal and should be perfect for you.
This works perfect! Very slight tweaks to the "tongues" made it fit and these Kodak Series 8 chrome adapters have the right thread pitch for 67 filters. Thanks again for your help!
