Talking about uses for 135's, the only use I ever found for mine was photographing friends playing tennis. Seems to be just the right distance. What's your use?
One common standard three lens setup - and my personal favorite - is 28-50-135. That is what I shot with almost entirely on my recent 65-roll cross-country trip.
Granted I'm an old school prime lens kinda guy, but I don't get the "its difficult to find anything the focal length is good for" posters.
Hello,
After originally reading this post I began asking myself,
"Just what didn't I personally not like about the 135mm? Or do I even really remember?" (hadn't owned one in SLR for more than 2 decades).
I do like this distance in RF (which I'm told is the absolute exteme for accurate parallax focusing), so why didn't I like the one I had in the 80's on my XG-1? <snip> <snip>
OK, I'm not sure I'm an acolyte, but I definately see it's place in my arsenal. Thanks for the thread!
They were easier & cheaper to make compared to wide angles and very popular.

Odd that some folks think that it's too long for portraits when fashion photographers often go *much* longer.
