12x20 film processing

Hi,

I am new to such a large piece of film and am curious.

Is there anything bad about processing the film in a Jobo using a 3063 drum? The 6 sheets of HP5+ I've just processed looks surprisingly nice.

But, I'm just wondering if there is a downside I am unaware of?

Hi Corey:

Well, if they turned out ok, I guess there is nothing bad about it<g>.

Can you tell me where you got the 3063 drum? I assume you process one sheet at a time in it? I think this is a 20x24 drum as I recall.

I processed some 11x14 Negatives last night in a Jobo 2804 Drum and they turned out beautiful.

I also have a 2850 that I am going to try 8x20 negs in.

Hey Will,

I put the negative in the drum just like you would if developing a print.

I developed the negatives in Pyrocat-HD 2:2:100 @ 70deg for 6 minutes (Determined using BTZS ExpoDev)

The drum rotation speed was set as low as it would go. Not even to the #1 spot, just "Clicked" on so it would turn real slow.

Every 90 seconds or so I would lift up the end of the Jobo unit and gently rock it a few times to slosh the developer around a little bit.

Not much more to it than that... The negatives turned out beautiful.

I do the same thing with 7 x 17 - pyro hd 2:2:100 @ 72- with the jobo rotation speed below the lowest setting.....just click it on. I basically never 'slosh' it either. Works like a charm, never had streaking effect.

Would that be the Jobo 2840 tank? I can't find anything on a 2804.

Yes, Reggie it is a 20x24 drum, I've had them for years, but I'm sure ebay is a source.

The negatives do look good, however it is a very busy subject and am curious if I will run into problems with pictures of big continuous tone areas with the jobo drum.

I know some people talk about inserts, and am curious if it is necessary to produce even negatives...

In any case, thank you all for your input.
