If you can make the reel 1 mm wider, the standard film will still load correctly; there's much more than 1mm depth of the grooves on the plates. And 1mm is just about what's needed for this over-width film.
It may not only be the depth of the slits. But once you widen the notches at the center collumn you introduce play, which may be annoying at inserting /spooling reguler sized film. I say may as I have no experience with that model of reel. But one should at least carefully consider if a modification is really worthwhile for just one faulty film left.
But once one could live with it and there should be more of such overwidth film, modifying the notches sure is the neatest approch for such problems and should be kept in mind in general.
