120 rolled tigher than a ...

Going through and cleaning up, at last, old slides B&W film sheet and roll film of the folks ... just came across a roll of 120, rolled up tighter than a ...
Any suggestions of what to do.. to unroll it, to see if its worth scanning?
Very springy ..
Its got shots of dear old dad in uniform from the 40's

Soak it in photoflo or equivalent for a few minuted then hang to dry, it'll straighten out.

I'd say the same as Rick A and add that you should be prepared to hang heavy clips on the bottom of the film and let it hang for 24 hours or more if needs be.

On occasions I have left a film with heavy weights hanging for much longer than I needed to and I noticed that such a film came off the clips in a very flat form

Yeah.. ha.. we let it soak for about an hour +.. just went our there... the single frame one, hung up to dry, with like you said, big heavy clips, the next of ?? shots.. first frame was 'looser' but then.. it was sprung so tight, that the photo flow never got any further in. So un-sprung it about half way, and let the two springs join ... to have a bath together... ha..ha.... right now have the small jar, out in the southwest warm sun, and will give it another try in a couple more hours ...

Perhaps someone can help me with a similar problem. I discovered among my Father's photographs several rolls of 35mm BW negs, perhaps from the 30s or 40s, rolled up and stored in the metal canisters in which the cassettes came. Two problems: relaxing the coil of the negs, and more importantly, getting them out of the d***ed canisters without scratching them! What was he thinking! He was an engineer and usually very meticulous about such things.

Bring the center out first, like a coiled main spring. Twist the film like you are tightening it as you go and it should come out.
