I just got an email that 120 Ektar 100 is back in stock at B&H. I ordered 20 rolls @ $3.79 per roll.

Shipping was $5 from NY to FL.

This is good news. I have not yet seen this film on the shelves here in Canada. With the apparent shortages since its introduction, I have been afraid that this film would simply not be able to catch the eye of consumers, and die... A victim of its own success, so to speak.

My place is 5 blocks from Adorama, good and bad at the same time. I saw the post and stop by this morning in my way to work, I bought the last roll of 120mm they had at the store, so the guy ordered more from warehouse he said? Cheers!

What do you guys think about this film? is it really a big one change for color?

The reds and blues were too saturated, in my opinion, to use it as my main color film. I don't want the sky to automatically look as if I used a polarizing filter. However it might be a good choice for punching up the color on a dreary and overcast day or where a landscape could use a little enhancement to the color of a patch of flowers or where the grass was browning and might look better with enhanced color. The final answer, of course, is to try a roll and see for yourself how you like it.

thanks Chazzy, I guess for people like us (newbies) is hard to determine what's the best brand, what film/brand gives better quality (specially because we can not compare between brands/types due to lack of experience). I bought some 35mm Ektar and one 120. I guess my main problem is that I like them all! If I use Provia 100F, I like it, I am sure I will like Ektar before I try it! What can be wrong with a film manufactured by a company that's been around for so long? I ask myself?
What color do you use when you don't want over saturation of blues and reds? just curious.

I'm in love with Portra 400NC at the moment. I am also experimenting with Portra 400VC and Portra 800. I almost always use black and white film, so these color experiments take a while for me to accomplish.

Mind you, my preference is purely personal taste: I like the natural look, and I do a lot of people pictures where the Portra NC films really shine. Your taste and shooting activities might be completely different.

To add to what Chazzy said, the choice of the film has to be based on the subject matter, both for black & white and color. I find Kodak NC and VC excellent for portraits, wedding, and photographs where the facial colors are important. I use Kodak UC 400 [carefully stored away in my freezer to keep it from the hoarders] for red rock when I am shooting landscapes. Ektar will probably be my color film of choice for landscapes when my supply of UC runs out.

I love the reds. I shot a few rolls over in florida this past march and I was very satisfied with the colors I got. I printed mostly on Kodak Endura paper at 11x14 from 35mm negs and I got mostly grain free enlargements even when printing borderless with some crop in there. It's a fun film. It's my main color negative film at the moment and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
