100 Acros and Rodinal

I am just getting back into analog photography and loving it. In the distant past, I liked to use Rodinal as one of my favorite developers with slower film and medium format. I have purchased some 100 Acros in 120 format to work with and will be developing it in Blazinol (Rodinal in Canada). Would anyone have any ideas about what would be a good starting point for developing times and dilutions?

Sure: Acros 100 120 roll film in Rodinal 1:50 for 12 minutes. EI 100 but this depends on determining the personal EI through testing, you can shoot a frame at 50, 100, 200 and and see. Agitate for the first 20 seconds then for 10 seconds at 5 minutes and 10 seconds at 10 minutes. You can increase the time to 15 or 17 minutes depending on the subject range. I just developed 14 rolls of it and they were fine. I put a drop or two of LFN in the developer and a drop or two in the final rinse. Use a water stop/rinse and TF4 for the fixer. Prewashing is a must these days, prewash for a couple of minutes more or less. You will see the color change as you pour it out.

Why is pre-washing a must these days? When was the cutoff between these days and those days (or is it them days)?

I agree with doing a test as Curt suggests. Otherwise you'll never know what's good for you, with your equipment and processing.

I use prewash to heating up the tank and film.
Uneven development is not an issue when you invert the tank immediately after pouring in the developer i guess.

12min develop 1:50 20degrees celcius, each min 1 inversion. first minute continuously

I suppose the pre-wash is to flush off the anti-halide dye, used on this film these days. Didn't have to do this with verichrome pan or versapan or supreme or tri-x in the old days.

This one was a 5 minute exposure! Acros has almost no reciprocity failure with long exposure.


All the above were developed in Rodinal 1+50, 68F/20C, 11 minutes.

Place the tank with a weight on top into the tempering bath with your chemicals for a few minutes before you start. No problems with getting the tank temperature right if you do that.

1:50 for 12 minutes at EI80 at 68F....no prewash and never had a problem with uneven development. The real trick is consistancy. If the developer drifts down a degree or two, that is fine so long as it always does that.
