“Photographers’ Fanfaire”
a celebration of fine art photography.
Lectures-Panel discussions-Book signings and Print sales

November 3, 4, & 5 2006 University of Portland $ 15 a day -Free on Sunday.
Anyone who is interested in Fine Art Photography is invited to come and particpate in these lectures, panel discussions book signings and print sales on November 3-5 at the Unversity of Portland. This is a wonderful occasion for learn more about photography and to begin or expand their collection of books and prints. There will be book and print venders plus the artists will be selling work as well!
Speakers will be:
Steve Anchell, Bruce Barmbaum, Ray Bidegain, Martha Casanave, Stu Levy, Janis Miglavs,
Gerald Robinson, John Wimberley and Jerry Wolfe.
Panel Discussions:
Art and the law, led by intellectual property attorney Burt Krages
Pricing and alternatives for marketing your work with Ray Bidegain
Starting your photography collection and collecting photography books
with Jennifer Stoots, a photography appraiser.
The creative thought process.
Plus a workshop on framing your photography on Sunday.

Portland Photographer’s Forum is offering the public a rare opportunity to purchase signed fine art photography at affordable prices directly from the photographer and signed photography books directly from the authors at “The Photographer‘s Fanfaire“. The participating photographers are well known West Coast photographers with national reputations.
These include: Steve Anchell, Bruce Barnbaum, Ray Bidegain, Martha Casanave, Stu Levy, Janis Miglavs, Gerald Robinson, Lorraine Richey, John Wimberley and Jerry Wolfe. Some will sell books only while others will sell prints and books. The lectures will take place on Friday in the Buckley Center Auditorium and on Saturday and Sunday in the Margo Hunt Center Auditorium. In addition, there will be panel discussions and each photographer will discuss their work and answer questions. Rare photography book venders will also be selling books.
The Photographer’s Fanfaire will feature panel discussions for photographers and the public on: “Art and the Law”, Pricing and Alternative Markets for Your Work”, “Starting Your Photography Print and Book Collection”, “The Creative Thought Process” and “Framing Your Photography“. There will also be information about workshops offered by the individual photographers.
Bruce Barnbaum (www.barnbaum.com) , Steve Anchell (www.anchellworkshops.com), Martha Casanave (www.marthacasanave.com), Gerald Robinson, John Wimberley (www.johnwimberleyphotography.com) and Jerry Wolfe (www.jwolfephoto.com) are black and white silver gelatin printers. Jerry Wolfe also makes color prints. Ray Bidegain (www.rbstudio.com) is a platinum/palladium printer. Stu Levy is both a silver gelatin and digital printer. Lorraine Richey’s prints are color Polaroid transfer prints to which she adds her own creative touch using other mediums. Janis Miglavs (www.jmiglavs.com) is a commercial photographer. His current project is photographing East African tribes and he is incorporating the tribe’s myths and legends into his work. Authors selling books will be Steve Anchell, Bruce Barnbaum, Martha Casanave, Stu Levy, Gerald Robinson and Jerry Wolfe. Ray Bidegain, Lorraine Richey and John Wimberley will be selling prints.
The Photography Fanfaire will take place at the University of Portland (5000 N. Willamette Blvd. in Portland) on Friday, November 3 through Sunday, November 5, 2006. Sales will take place in room 163 in the Buckley Center. On Friday and Saturday there will be a $15.00 admission charge, but Sunday will be free. An added bonus will be the opportunity to win prints or books or services in a raffle. Newest person to the Fanfaire

Attorney Leonard DuBoff will be joinning Attorney Bert Krages on the "Art and Law' panel discussion. They will be speaking on November 4th 2006. Here is article about Mr. Duboff's book, "The Law (in plain english} for photographers.
"The pertinent question every practicing photographer needs to ask himself is: "What do I need to know to protect myself legally as a photographer?" The author of this book, Leonard DuBoff, is a law professor at Lewis and Clark Law School, and a practicing attorney. Topics covered include copyright protection, legal release, invasion of privacy, work for hire (my favorite), defamation, censorship and obscenity. Former White House photographer David Hume Kennerly said of this book, "It's as basic and valuable a tool as your light meter." In this age of over-litigation, he just might be right.
Also included in this book are sample contracts and business forms such as release forms (including two adult-, a minor-, and a property-release form), agent contracts, delivery memos, invoices, (picture) holding forms, and copyright application forms, to name a few. Also included are tax tips, information on organizing your business, a complete list of photographic organizations, and a thorough "further-reading" section. If you're making money from photography, then you need a copy of this book in your permanent reference library."
