...but it is not an area I have any expertise or experience in. On the stills front, I hope Kodak films don't keep going up in price. One note though is that KodakAlaris seems to allow / achieve much higher prices in Europe and the UK compared to North America which is rather irritating...
Please let me clarify, digital is fantastic and some scenes in a film shooting have to be shot digitally, also what first they do with Vision 3 is scanning and processing it hybrid.
But Vision 3 is technically way superior to digital for cinematography for several reasons, one is dedicated...
...as we can chose to photograph with film technology or digital, along with the varying degrees of analogue that go along with the process, motion picture or stills? KodakAlaris still have the marketing and distribution responsibility etc for stills film which must have costs associated with it.
I'd say that the Ektachrome resurrectors were the Vision 3 people.
They made this camera:

Kodak Vision 3 it's the most powerful imaging system in the world for cinematography, blowing miles away anything digital, but "No Film School"...
And yet, it was KodakAlaris who were the main motivators for bringing back Ektachrome (still) film, not Eastman Kodak, who sell the motion picture version.
And it is KodakAlaris who are discussing new films with Eastman Kodak - including at least one film that Eastman Kodak never sold.
Kodak...
I love Eastman Kodak, but I hate KodakAlaris. This deserves an explanation.
Today film lovers are mainly enthusiasts, my personal view is that Kodak marketing policy is oriented to short term profits because they have no faith in film, they don't know what the business will be in the future...
I agree, film has become a luxury good. Low volumes drive high prices every step of the way. I have a freezer full of film. Ilford has a better business model than KodakAlaris, IMHO.
...same process for film.
As I understand it, Eastman Kodak doesn't begin the manufacturing process until they have confirmed orders from KodakAlaris. I expect that KodakAlaris doesn't place those orders until they have confirmed orders from their customers, the distributors they deal...
Actually, KodakAlaris received book debts as part of the bankruptcy settlement. That is why well their net profits before taxes are good, their application of the debts to those profits result in a "book" loss - thus no taxes.
And as for "no value" - Eastman Kodak bears no costs related to...
You can buy 5x7 Ektachrome. All that's necessary is convincing enough other 5x7 shooters to do the same so KodakAlaris' minimum order quantity is met. Keith Canham has already posted about this:
There are no warehousing substantial costs... 1Kg of film boxes has a value ranging from $120 to $500, warehousing of milk is at least 100 times more expensive by value unit.
____
Today distribution is very efficient, a single warehouse in the middle may distribute to big retailers as...
Eastman Kodak transferred all their still film, chemicals and colour paper marketing capacity to KodakAlaris as part of the bankruptcy. The original employees of KodakAlaris were almost all ex-Eastman Kodak or Eastman Kodak subsidiary employees. Essentially all the warehousing capacity was...
Well, today distribution costs are very low, e-commerce is quite efficient, and shipping from wharehouses is paid by consumers.
Eastman Kodak has a high distribution cost because Alaris is in the middle, and Alaris is in the middle because EK had debts with UK pension plan. IMO Kodak film high...
...film stock. Kodak, Ilford, InnovisCoat, whomever, they all have to buy from one factory.
And by the way, the different retail prices in the UK may very well relate to the fact that different retailers are using different distributors to supply them. KodakAlaris does not sell direct to...
I used the contact form here: https://www.kodakalaris.com/company/contact-us
and then I chose "professional photographers & labs".
Thanks for the email address, I will send them an email.
portra is going up 30% like you stated. i went to process supples in london uk last week and they confirmed this to me. so portra in the uk will be 45 now. makes me vomit in my mouth just thinking that i was purchasing the portra 400 120 pro pack from wex a couple years ago for £25.
...are being increased. This will range from 10-15% on black and white and Gold, to 30% on Portra and Ektar and 43% on Color Plus 200. KodakAlaris will also take the unprecedented step of cancelling all worldwide backorders on December 31st which means that if we don't have it now it will cost...
If you compare the Kodak prices in the EU vs USA then it looks that in the EU price is "saturated", a Portra 160 4x5" box is $70, $7 per sheet. In the USA price (B&H) is $37, just the half.
Purely my guess work but I'd think that cheaper film products such as Color Plus will increase up to 30% while the more expensive lines including bulk products won't have such a large increase. Ultimately everything needs to make financial sense for Kodak....21% increase in film related sales...
Hello,
I have asked KodakAlaris Germany how much the prices will be increased. They replied the increase is in the 0 (yes 0) to 30% range. Depending on the product.
So we will probably see very differentiated price increases which differ significantly from product to product.
Best regards,
Henning

If UK Kodak Pension Plan wants to sell Alaris then they have to show profits to lure potential company buyers and to increase price for Alaris, those profits are for the short term, or...
I'm very interested in the prospect of E6 chemistry availability from KA. Makes me curious if KodakAlaris will make a full on 7 bath offering or a 4 bath kit, or both as they did before. I love processing reversal film, that's the best part.
...to my full sealed container, but to me a tank is something in use and not a storage container (?)
I have just been searching the KodakAlaris website for product information documents specific to their fixers, but so far, no luck. I bought that particular fixer as concentrate from a bulk...
...in 10 days time to order. So this came sooner then rumoured.
On Kodak Professional page on Facebook:

...can be in a position to produce more film towards the end of 2020 than they are currently capable of manufacturing. It's nothing to do with quashing demand with prices. It's also worth noting that KodakAlaris made several million dollars loss last year despite the massive increase in film sales.
Apparently - to their customers (distributors).
I too miss the days when Kodak considered their end users (or at least the retailers who sold to the end users) to be their customers, but that ship has sadly sailed.
