Can chemistry issues cause pinholes in modern Tri-X / Kodak recommends hardening fixer??

These weren't air bells, but tiny pin-holes. Also, I ritualistically rap my tank on the counter 4 times after every agitation cycle. I learned the hard way what air bells look like as a kid. I never presoaked Tri-X in the past and never had issues. I presoak Fomapan, but only to get the festive...

Can chemistry issues cause pinholes in modern Tri-X / Kodak recommends hardening fixer??

Welcome to Photrio. You definitely should reach out to Kodak Alaris with details: profilm@kodakalaris.com That being said, there are a lot of Tri-X users here, and we haven't been hearing of problems like this. For a fairly long period of time Kodak was having a lot of problems with the backing...

...the base; that shouldn't happen with any modern filmstock, which don't need a hardener unless you're developing at high temps. It does sound odd and might be worthwhile posting an image of the problem here. It might be worthwhile contacting Kodak Alaris about the problem so they can investigate.

Kodak Alaris cannot legally exert any downward pressure on prices paid by retailers to the distributors they buy from. In many cases, there is more than one...

We all look forward to the start of your employment at Eastman Kodak / Kodak Alaris. I'm sure you'll whip their bean counters, as well as the rest of their people/operations, into shape tout suite. Please let us know when you've brought back all those other products that were pushed over the...

How much will Kodak film prices increase?

Matt, thank you for one of the rare intelligent comments concerning film prices. It really is quite simple despite the verbose conspiracy theories and complaints that the film companies specifically targeted certain complainers above: 1. Don't like Kodak prices, buy another brand. 2. Don't like...

Sounds like that lady from Ohio who with 5 reported virus cases figured it's time to tell people it is 100,000 just don't see it yet. Must have heard Merkel helping the panic with her 70% prediction too.

How much will Kodak film prices increase?

Ilford is cheaper in some places, and more expensive in others. Their distribution system is very different than Kodak Alaris', and as such different factors affect it differently. They are also a much smaller manufacturer, and have no colour products. But like Kodak, they are limited to a...

    Dektol 2019 Version?

The sub-contracting manufacturer for chemicals for Kodak Alaris has changed, and with it, the catalog numbers on many of the products. The products from the new manufacturer should be similar in performance, if not exactly the same in compounding. The retailers "discontinue" the old catalog...

Very positive news from Kodak: Strong increasing demand - new investment

Thanks for the update.....I am sure my friendly local camera shop won't be very happy but it's a good problem to have....too much demand! It's one of my favourite colour films too so I'm not thrilled by the shortage but it it indicates an ongoing revival that's great. As for the 65mm news...

Very positive news from Kodak: Strong increasing demand - new investment

Update: I've got the information from Kodak Alaris that the special situation concerning ColorPlus 200 film (see above) will probably continue until this autumn. Demand is so high, that (quote) "as soon as one shipment is out to the distributors, we get immediately double volume of that shipment...

we will have to agree to disagree. All products start at a high price and settle down at what the market will bear over time. If you want to test the market or reset the settled price, jack the price way up, then gradually lower it over time. What the market will bear is the definition of...

In the MBA I was teached that optimal strategy is not that one. Look, Jeff Bezos and ex-wife are not that rich because of "charging as much as possible". Best is not charging as much as possible but what it's optimal for highest profits in the long term, or for the short term if you need...

It could be the lens or the scan or the lumiere industrial generation, that technology evolved over time. The dry plate emulsion has a high resolving power for luminance, regarding (the less important) color resolution it is 4 million particles per sq inch. OK, but in this debate let's...

No, Henning no... What I say is that Foma sells 8x10 sheets at 2.38€, including conversion, so trying to justify the 27€ per Portra sheet from conversion is a plain fallacy you have thrown, just being clear. To me 27€ per sheet is a plain abuse, I won't buy it. Do it it you want.

Yes, but let me add that Harrow was that inefficient due chronic lack of investnent, at the end Alaris lost that industrial capability because they lacked management skills and investment drive, as all money was sinked in kpp2.

Alaris sold Harrow - an incredibly inefficient production facility due to age and over-capacity - and focused their production at the facility in Colorado that they continued to own a leasehold interest in (along with Carestream). Carestream is the result of Eastman Kodak selling their X-ray...

Frank, you miss something quite intresting, who has the distribution rights is Alaris, not EK. Most of that crazy overprice is sinking in the KPP2-Alaris black hole, that have 1.7bn deficit. To worsen things, Alaris and its exclusive distribution rights are for sale, so at EK they have no idea...

What demand? At 27€ per shot? Kodak is the single CN sheet supplier, in the BW there are many brands: ilford, rollei, foma. EK would sell CN LF enough, problem is that EK has the KA hooligans in the midle that say that a sheet has to cost 27€ in the EU, this may be optimal for KA, but it...

Sorry, I was not clear, RA-4 is made by a Canadian company in CO, USA. Company is Carestram that is owned by the canadian Onex. Alaris lost their paper manufacturing facilities in the UK from severe missmanagement and now they have to outsource from the canadian corporation.

Nonsense. Leaving the unattractive BW paper market was a smart move. In that market no money could have been made for more than a decade. Just look at Ilford's numbers: Decreasing demand until last year! And just look at the current difficulties ADOX is facing (see the BW forum). Lies, lies...
