Following up, information posted on Photrio <here> suggests KodakAlaris has announced some kind of problem with several lots of XTOL, including Cat 105 8338, Date 2109/10/07, which is the lot number I used.
Without knowing more about the exact nature of the Xtol problem, it is hard to say if...
In a decade of using various of their chemistry I've never seen a problem. I've had one roll of film with issues. Contrast that with the common experience with Kodak films (backing paper, anyone?) and constant complaints about chemistry (XTOL, D-76, etc). I've got a bag of XTOL to return here...
Perhaps two new films. One a reintroduction of a discontinued film, the other something new.

I believe you are right. A complete disconnect between the products they sell and those that make and use use them. The worst 'middle man' possible. I just hope KA can hold things together well enough to keep selling Kodak color (and b/w) film stock.
I have a stockpile of the beautiful Tetenal made XTOL. Alaris is in, what the kids call a dumpster fire right now. I use the Kodak Flexicolor C41 RA and the Ektacolor RA4 chemistry made in the China plant, zero problems. I don't know but it could be the new owners wanting to make sure all the...
That was essentially my point.
Given Eastman Kodak's financial performance of late, such an evolution (or even corporate survival) seems less and less likely every day.
Note that these replies do not represent "hopes" or "wishes." They simply attempt to point out reality. Which, as those...
Thank you Matt! This is the FACT. If you start out with the same raw materials, doesn't mean you can make a Stradivarius. Without the Stadivari there to make the magic happen you might end up with a ukulele!
We see how well Germany under the thumb of the Soviet Union performed. :outlaw:
I...
Sounds like Alaris is having a couple of new products coming- won't say what they are (one relaunch, one new product). What it is not is Plus-X (nor Kodak Gold 120).

...no matter how labelled, will need to be evaluated on their own terms.
A more interesting question is whether Eastman Kodak and KodakAlaris can continue to modernize the production and products in a way to decouple their survival from the survival of the cine film market. That requires an...
We've all read about the general nature of KodakAlaris' agreement with Eastman Kodak. However, questions about the specifics have always been met by complete silence.
Yes, that much was clear from publicly available information.
Have you performed a detailed review of the bankruptcy...
...could not keep operating for that reason. The paper business being operated by Sino now bears the chance, that without the constraints KodakAlaris has due to the KPP obligations, they can actually compete against Fuji in the paper market again, because there is real money to be made. That´s...
...owned by Eastman Kodak and its international subsidiaries - by that I mean mainly the employees - were either let go or, in most cases, hired by KodakAlaris.
KodakAlaris licences the trademarks for the products that they market from Eastman Kodak, who retain ownership of those trade marks.
Not sure on the trademark, Alaris has the rights to market the film, and the exclusive rights to use the trademark. depending on how clever the Kodak lawyers were, they may or may not be able to "recall" the trademark if the business was sold. Remember the sad case of "Agfa Photo"
But what rights to use that trademark were assigned to KodakAlaris?
In this type of discussion I often post that "those who know aren't talking and those who are talking don't know." Matt, the certainty exhibited in your responses is surprising. Are you violating an NDA? Did someone else...
...because many of the issues that had to be dealt with related to the current practicalities for distribution - issues like storage and packaging and shipping.
And KodakAlaris is, of course, the conduit for distributor feedback, which itself is a conduit for retailer and end user feedback.
I'm sure no one here knows the answer to this question. Who owns the "recipe" to the still films produced by The Eastman Kodak Co.? If Alaris owns the exclusive global distribution rights, do they have detailed documentation on how to produce the traditional Kodak still films at a site of their...
Lots of misinformation here, so let me clarify something:
EASTMAN Kodak and KODAKALARIS are two seperate companies. Eastman Kodak produces all exposable materials, e.g still and cinefilms sold under diverse brands. Portra, Ektar, TriX etc are made by Eastman Kodak, but sold and distributed by...
...with the Adox chemistry (limited to be sure ) has been positive.
I've got XTOL stashed in case of Martian invasion. I wouldn't recommend any KodakAlaris black and white chemistry to anyone until there's no more warnings of brown developer, or crystals in the bottles of HC-110. It's sad.
Nice work. The Legacy brand is not having problems. I won't be buying anything from KodakAlaris or the company that bought the chemistry division until they're stable.
Having just skim read the links PDF, I was quite taken back to read the following instruction, twice, on the start of page 2:
Before you turn off the lights, pour the developer
solution into the tank. Then turn off both the room lights
and the safelight
Smoothly lower the loaded film reel...
I'm going to try Rodinal and Xtol, I'll add DDX to the list as well. I found two other Ilford liquid developers at my local shop but unless DD-X also goes by another name, it wasn't one of them. I want to say HC and Ilfosol, if I'm remembering correctly.
KodakAlaris specifically recommends as their go to all around developer.

I don't know if anyone else feels the resolution, but I do. Advice for film developer for someone starting out: Ilford DD-X (concentrated...
I agree. Should that day come, I would use my kids' college funds to buy ... ahem ... a fair amount of Kodak color film and the freezers to go with them. Shoot until I drop, the cameras fail, or the film runs out.
