So the 11 million USD that Alaris received from Eastman Kodak Company for sale termination
Is that Eastman Kodak paid to get out of the deal because the economy went off the Covid cliff????
While I'm quite sure that the return on investment impacts the guidance that the UK pension security authority (the owners of the KodakAlaris business) gives to KodakAlaris' Board of Directors, I doubt that the increases in prices talked about in this thread are based on that.
It is important...
Well, Fujifilm in Europe could send more chemistry. I needed RA4 developer, I have been using KodakAlaris Ektacolor, I switched over to Fuji P1. Works great, thanks Unique Photo!
I got my 1st package of Adox XT-3 from Freestyle in October. No more supply problems for me.
There has been too much emphasis on Alaris and Kodak instead of the causative effects of inflation, and the volatility of shipping plus the (lack of) availability of materials.
Every company and consumer is feeling the sting.
An interesting point Matt. Could it be that Kodak's increase to reflect all the reasons that have been given is in fact in the high single figure range and that it is KA ,whose aim is the health of the Kodak pension pot, that is the one that has added on what many see as as an...
And don't forget that the price increase isn't coming directly from Eastman Kodak. It is coming from KodakAlaris, which means increased costs relating to distribution issues are also influencing the results.
Of course Kodak prices will be up. They go up on regular basis for years now. Even some brit dude operating from mama's basement under kosmos FSU picture on the logo and repackaged film for sale could tell this. LOL.
...and were happy at how well they had met the challenge.
I think a lot of people under-estimate how much of a combination to the world of `Kodak` the many international subsidiaries actually made. Just as how much of KodakAlaris came from those subsidiaries, rather than from Eastman Kodak itself.
... which means it's not an official source because they do not have the authority to be a spokesperson for KA. They didn't want to be quoted because they weren't supposed to tell you.
The reporting is the equivalent of "I heard that......"
Internet sales used to be not charged sales tax. But that's ended for a couple of years. B and H has been charging sales tax on film web sales even to other states.
Here's the section from the Kosmofoto website:
KodakAlaris has announced a “significant” price increase affecting all its film products in January 2022.
Kosmo Foto was shown examples of new pricing from one UK distributor on Thursday (28 October). The rises were confirmed by KodakAlaris on...
Everything in that article came from an official KodakAlaris source who did not wish to be quoted. I had a 20-minute phone conversation with them on Friday. The document came from one of the biggest UK film distributors, which was sent to me by a friend who's a film retailer (who obviously...
film is expensive.good film is more expensive and prices will go up further before they stop, I predict. W e have no choice and are still lucky to get film at all.
No it is Eastman Kodak, although I don't know if Eastman Kodak has anyone else assisting them with this through contract.
See here: https://imaging.kodakalaris.com/photographers/film
The most common sizes are regular catalogue items, and are listed on the 2021 Pro Film List here...
I seem to recall that KodakAlaris pays a 3rd party to confection all the sheet film. Is this accurate?? The retail photo market in the US is so distorted thanks to the decades of zero tax collection by B&H and other online companies. B&H, Freestyle, Unique Photo and others enjoy volume rebates...
They can afford it. It's getting harder and harder to get good film. I had to check with several online merchants before I got B&W film in 120 last week.
Yes.
And since ORWO is planning to release color movie film. It's only a matter of time until they decide to release it on 35mm still format, without the remjet. With the current inflated pricing from Kodak and Fuji, they can become a best seller if they drop the prices a little bit.
No official source on that article yet - only "was shown examples of new pricing from one UK distributor" and that it was "confirmed by KodakAlaris". Take the announcement with a grain of salt. There are no press releases on the KA website yet. However, 20% on top of the already $20 for a...
Saw this news by Kosmofoto (Stephen Dowling) posted on Twitter. Does anyone know about it? There is no source.

That is where all the Eastman Kodak and Kodak International marketing and distribution people and systems are, so that is most of what you would need to buy.
I would take Kodak private. Resurrect the processing division. No new film. But hire people like the people who ran the labs in the hey days of Eastman Kodak. The rub would be the Alaris mess. I'm sure if the jackpot was enough something could be worked out. Probably need Fujifilm paper and...
...Kodak will also do contract coating out of Building 38, if you have the money.
The Kodak colour RA-4 paper that was being made by KodakAlaris (at Harrow England and others), and then was made on contract at the Carestream facility in Colorado (and possibly in South America too?) is possibly...
Oh, then thx for a link which hopefully does not go obsolete too soon! I was unaware of the change in corporate parentage.
The Google search engine seems to be similarly in the dark, as it provides no 'Sino Promise' hits in the first 10 pages of hits, when searching for "HC-110 data sheet"...
Yes, but as KodakAlaris no longer owns that business, I would expect your link to soon become defunct.
The sale to Sino Promise Holdings of the Kodak chemistry and Kodak colour paper business completed late in 2020.
...frame numbering is much less automated, and with the market being so small, the costs are high.
Offer to buy a million feet or so of bulk rolls of edge printed C41 film. KodakAlaris will get back to you with a much lower price for your consideration. Most likely you will have to pay up front.
...is still producing RA-4 paper for - now - Sino Promise Holdings (as they have bought the paper and photo chemistry business from KodakAlaris): It is uncertain at the moment. We will have to wait and see. Here in Europe (where using RA-4 ist still quite popular) it has been almost impossible...
...is what Sino Promise (the new source of Kodak chemicals) recommends - the HC-110 datasheet linked to on their website is just the old KodakAlaris datasheet which was the old Eastman Kodak datasheet, except the company names were changed.
Here is the page with the various links...
I must say that I am confused about the new Kodak/Alaris HC-110. I had used the old syrup HC-110 years ago, I remember mixing a "stock solution" of 1:3 (syrup hc-110 : water). Then to make a "working solution", dilution B would be: 1 part stock solution to 7 parts water. With the new HC-110...
I don't attribute the distribution issues to just the pandemic. In Canada, as an example, the distributors who buy from KodakAlaris and sell either to other distributors or the retailers themselves are a real problem - expensive, high minimum volumes, slow service times being a few parts of...
