Dear Colleagues:

I just purchase a bunch of Kodak Polyfiber GD paper from a fellow photographer. Perhaps I'm throwing darts in the dark. Who has used this paper and what can you tell me about it.

Thank you in advance.

David

It is double-weight, fiber base, the paper base is warm/cream.
Fine-grained lustre surface.
We used it in the lab I printed in back in the '80's & '90's for photo restoration and for clients who were going to hand-color with Marshall's Oils.
It hasn't been made in a long time, hopefully it has been stored well.

Yes, it was outstanding paper. G surface with D cream base tint. I have a print on the wall I made with it.

It is probably more than 1/3 of a century old.
And if you really like it, it may be tough to find more.
But with all that, here is hoping it works out for you.

It is a VC paper, Kodak used optical brighters in many of their later VC papers, tends to fog quickly. With a cream base might not be present. Good luck a great paper.

Thank you very much. Is the paper multigrade? Now I have to see if it works.

David

Kodak's approach to variable contrast was a line of papers and filters with "Poly" in their name: Polycontrast, Polyfiber, PolyMax. So as mentioned, yes.
The Ilford filtration scheme works with the Kodak materials, even if they are not identical.

I used this paper for a while years ago, although I used the glossy version only. I quite liked it and when sad when EK dumped all their papers. They made some good ones over the years.
