Do any of you use warm tone developer, and if so how do you use it? What developer and paper combination do you use, and what are the results? How does WT developer effect toning?

I like Ilford ID-78 with Ilford MG WTFB. I selenium tone all my finished prints, but since I use a fairly weak solution there is minimal color change.

ID-78 is a good general purpose paper developer in my opinion. I use it with Ilford MGWT and the warmth is very subtle. I read once (Ian Grant perhaps?) the WT papers lose some of their warmth when not very fresh, and here near the end of the Earth I suspect that papers are not super fresh.
My conclusion that if I want warm tones, then toning is the way to go.

I make ID-78 as well. The shorter the development time (within reason) the warmer the result. But as other have said, it's the choice of paper that ultimately determines how warm the resulting image will be.

I like Gold toned Kallitypes a lot, and I like a silver gelatin paper that produces something similar. My favorite warm tone paper is Fomatone Classic, which comes surprisingly close to the color of Agfa Portriga Rapid. A brief dip in Selenium produces a very pleasing color.

For some special purposes I have a combination of Foma warm tone paper Fomatone 132 and developer Fomatol pw.
I could not tell you that it is my favorite combination, but it really gives different color schemes, but due to it is not the type of paper I am using normally, it takes me long time to achieve some normal results. Paper in this developer is very slow, you have to increase time of enlarging and time of development.
I believe that you could get the same result with toners, but always better to try. Maybe you will find your own way.
